    How long does rut last?

I saw a BIG buck humping a doe last Saturday. The small bucks were chasing the prior two weeks.

Once I saw the actual humping (seen at two blinds the same day) I figured it's really on. How long will it last?

Do big bucks nail what's near them the first few days and then move more and further looking for the last few that are ready?

Does it last 4-5 days..7-10 days? Depend on weather?

Until the last doe is bred.

And, if any that were bred don't end up pregnant, they cycle again and the bucks get after them again.

All depends on the deer density on how long it last and when the does come in they all don't come in the same day are week !

The rut is a bell shaped curve. A few does come into estrus, then a few more, and more, and more and so on. Then the curve goes down with less and less and less. Any does that didn't get bred will start the bell shaped curve again till a peak then a decline. And the two curves overlap at the end of the first and the beginning of the second.

So, the "rut" last about two months. Give or take...

If your not in the woods the rut is over for you.

Lasts for weeks there are some does that bred first maybe they didn't raise a fawn the previous yr or had a fawn early There is then a rut peak where the majority of the doe's to receptive to bucks then there are a few that come in later or those that didn't actually take the first round. Then the yearling from the previous yr will bred at around 7 months old and that is when the real old mature deer are waiting for the freshman at the prom. Remember 201 days gestation period and fawns start dropping the first week or two of May thru end of June.

                        It's a marathon....not a sprint.

The Macallan 18 yr old question

This is for The Macallan fans.

If you were to ask for a bottle for Christmas, would you want the oak cask or the sherry cask?? And why??

I’ve had 18 before and loved it. Just not sure which one it was...
