70 Bronco ~ FrankenFord

2 Attachment(s)
Decided to fix up our 1970 Bronco.

Not doing a frame off, restore or custom....just fixin er up.

Picked this Bronco up cheap at the prison farm, cause it didnt have a title. Previous owner got it from a guy in Alabama. Alabama vehicles were not titled until 1984. This one never had one. I went to DMV and the ladies told me what I needed to do to get a Texas title. I did some research and had it titled within a month. It wasnt easy.

Bronco is solid, except for the floor boards and the hood. It has a strong 302 with a 3 on the tree. Didnt have any type of roof. Seats were tore up. I guess you could say it was weathered.

I had one of those in the early 70's 6 cylinder 3 speed with NO AC in Florida.

In for the redo.

I dont like things to stay "stock" for very long, so I ordered a 3" suspension lift from Tom's Broncos to allow for some 10x15 wheels and 33" Cooper's.

First and foremost, you don't know how good my old heart felt to see you post up old hand! Been a long time, and you have been sorely missed. Secondly, thanks for the little teaser pic of the "Chicken Hawk" sitting back there behind the Jeep. I still think about her a lot.
The Bronco is a hoss, can't wait to see the finished product. As always you will have this looking mighty fine. ;)b

She looks plumb pretty now. You need to post up a video of you riding the Hawk before she leaves. Heck, I'd buy it from you but I've grown too used to sleeping by Patty at night. ;) :D

Gummi Bear 05-28-2015 04:54 PM

Starting to look good!

I bought my first EB in 1996, been fooling with them ever since.

Did you get the full kit from Toms? I've spent truckloads with them over the years, mighty good folks.

If not, you're going to want new "C" bushings to correct the caster, else you'll have steering wander..

You may also need to take a look at the relationship between the panhard bar (track bar) and the drag link. They need to be similar in length, and move in the same plane or you'll get wonky handling.

myway 05-28-2015 05:44 PM

Man it looks good already. I am certain the finished product will be impressive!

Joey~AP 05-28-2015 05:50 PM

I got the complete lift from Toms. Relocated the pan hard mount. New bushings, shocks...everthing.

Aggiehunter08 05-28-2015 06:05 PM

bitchin';)b Keep up the great work!

WyoBull 05-28-2015 06:41 PM

My dad had a 72 Bronco with the 302 and 3 on the tree. Loved that thing!

MikeConner 05-28-2015 07:42 PM

Awesome, I've got a 77 I'll re-do when I can get some time. Last year for the true Bronco.

The weld on panhard drop bracket?

If so, make sure it is welded securely, it is all that keeps the front axle centered up there! LOL. (I've seen more than one tear off. The new bracket is thicker than the frame material )

When you lay on your tummy, and look at the front of your rig, the drag link should hide the panhard. If they are not perfect in line with one another, you will get bump steer.

If they are parallel, it will handle pretty well on the street, but can do some funny stuff when it twists up on the trail.

Some people use a drop pitman arm to achieve this, and it can introduce other handling issues, as well as occasional funny steering behavior.

This does not always happen. And as weird as it sounds, every rig is different. I've done at least a dozen EB lifts, and every one is unique.

BTLowry 05-28-2015 09:18 PM

Got a 76 in the barn
