Do leveling kits improve the ride?
 
My 2016 F150 super crew wants to "road walk" when traveling on rough surfaces at highway speeds. The front suspension, etc. has been ruled out by multiple trips to different Ford dealerships. I think it is in the rear and could be related to the lighter aluminum body. Anyone else experienced this? I am curious if a front leveling kit could help improve the ride. Thanks...

My guess would be no, you would have a higher center of gravity.

Leveling kits don't affect the factory ride at all. Unless its a kit where you change coils and shocks.

i can't speak to the before, since i put a leveling kit on my 2018 f150 right away.

it was really smooth with the factory tires. After i upgraded to Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 295 55 20 , the ride is still smooth and pretty quiet.
what i do notice with the big tires is that it likes to find a line or a groove when the road has slope to it or on highway bends and turns. It wants to follow that line more than i was used to on my other vehicles. it is not extreme, but definitely changed how i drive this truck. now that i am used to it, i love driving this truck. hope you get it figured out

My 2017 F-150 was terrible on rough roads. I switched stock out with
Fox 2.0 coilover leveling kit. It rides like my Raptor now on rough roads.

You could improve the ride with the proper leveling kit. If you buy a spacer kit, no. If you get a kit with replacement springs and shocks, it could improve. Depends on the spring rate and design of the kit.

I’m not sure of the f150 front and rear suspension components. I’m sure it’s IFS. I’m thinking it has s coilover setup possibly?

Leveling kits won't make the ride better. Actually, with exception to aesthetic reasons, I don't believe they serve much purpose at all.

Actually, the trucks come from the factory not level for a reason.

Drove my 2015 f150 for 20,000 miles the installed a spacer leveling kit. The ride was definitely not ďimprovedĒ. Slightly stiffens up the front end for sure.

Both leveled trucks I have had basically ride like factory or possibly a little rougher, but that is likely more to do with the tires being a more aggressive tread than what I had before the level than it is with the actual leveling kit.

It depends on whether it comes with better shocks than what you have. Unless leveling kits have changed since I last looked at them, they are likely to make your ride WORSE, not better.

I’d say any level kit will make the “ride” worse, you are extending the a-arms and putting cv shafts at angle not designed.

put one on my 2016 F150 and the ride definitely went south. Guess the rough country gets its name for a reason. Saving for a full spring level and shocks for my new one

If you went with a 3/1 level kit it might make it worse.. Without upgrading your UCAs you won't get the right camber and the outside of your tires will wear faster.

Don't ask me how I know :) . I ran a 3/1 for a year before I ripped it out and upgraded my UCAs and added coil overs.

Throw a couple hundred pounds in the back and see if the problem goes away, if so run less air in the rear tires. Some times it doesn't take much.

I put a set of Boss coilovers on my 2017 f150 with a set of new raptor rims and tire. Rides like a caddy. Had the fox 2.0 rear shocks on for a bit but they rode really rough. I figured due to light alum body. Took the rears off and put stock back off. The boss coilovers make a night and day difference. Boss are alot easier to adjust while on the truck than fox just as a FYI.

I think it depends on the truck. I had one on two different dodges and they rode a little better. Had on a chevy and it rode so bad I sold the truck

If it is a 2016, it is a steel body. I have one also.
They did not switch to the aluminum till 2017.

Mainly for looks.

Also doesn't help with the ride but does on the handling, if you change out the factory and put a Bilstein steering stabilizer on.

Looks mostly, and also to get a little more clearance if you wanted larger tires than factory without rubbing issues. I just hate the factory rake on trucks and prefer a nice level stance.

As stated, looks more than anything.

Actually, trucks come from the factory with rake for when hauling a decent load or pulling a bumper pull with a bit of tong weight, the truck doesn't have as bad of a squatting issue in the rear.

Also, some people may not realize but for a lot of leveled trucks carrying a load, their low beams blind on-coming traffic.

Obviously, this is not an issue for the average truck owner that's using their vehicle for a grocery getter and baseball practice.

@CSanders yea thats what I went with. Went with boss because they were easier to adjust and wanted more lift out of them but figured out later I didnt need as much lift as I thought since I have a 2wd. If you do get them and you have a 2wd tell them when purchasing so they can set them correclty. Had to crank mine like 12 turns down when they got on the truck. They are great though, caught them onsale and got them for around 750ish. Wish I would have got the back ones also but will probably pick them up next time they are on sale.

Same ride for me on my F150 except it feels less stable on turns with higher cg. I hate that I can't adjust headlights though, get flashed often at night. Probably wouldn't do it looking back but it does look better to me and gives me a little more clearance on the front for field mounds and curbs.

4.5 inch Lift and level on my Silverado rides much better now. Especially when hauling a load or towing a trailer

I've got a 18 250. Did a ready level 2.5in stage 2 level kit on the front and a 1in motofab rear block kit on the rear. Sits absolutely perfect..the 2.5 will slightly leave the bed downward but not much. I'm very picky. Put the 1in on the rear and couldn't be happier.

Trucks are higher in the back so when you actually haul something your back end isnt dragging.......I guess most trucks dont haul much or even get dirt on the tires.

Have Rough Country 2" spacers on both mine and the wifes trucks (both 2016 F150) and no noticeable change in the handling at all. Now, once you put wider or more aggressive tread tires on, you will notice handling or walking more. But that has nothing to do with the level, that's the tires.

Leveling can be accomplished in a couple of ways.
Spacer kit - usually no change for small (2" - 3") lifts.
New suspension - the world is your oyster

In my opinion, this is something that should cause a vehicle to fail inspection.

Used to, now itís not even part of the inspection.

Years ago the inspections were all about safety, now itís just about emissions....
