Nothing yet. Just need to watch the website for the new rules and lottery.

RGV Hunter 07-12-2017 01:37 PM

I am new to the Camp Bullis hunt. What is the website?

Let me know if you have any questions

So if you get selected it's $180. I could not see when the deadline was so I guess it is still under review for this coming season.

riley05 07-13-2017 03:35 PM

It is. You still have to get your tx hunting license. You first have to apply for the lottery. If you get selected then you pay.. Then once it opens completely then its a race to pick the area you want to hunt.

It's updated, except for the official rulebook

1337hunter 08-10-2017 02:51 PM

Well, that's unfortunate. Good news is it's only $50 for a WTD permit.

JCG 08-10-2017 03:06 PM

Well that seems to be an unfortunate change to things. The change in stands etc that is.

My concern is the late start in setup time. With drawing results on the 30th and season starting on 6 Oct, it does not leave much time for acclimation

Best of luck out there this year I'll follow along for the ride. Looks like they really did a bang up job of messing thing up imo so I guess I'm glad I got on a lease this year and don't have to deal with the hassle. Maybe next year if they get someone to take charge and figure things out things might improve. Best of luck to those hunting out there this year.

born-two-hunt 09-12-2017 10:38 PM

New archery areas maps with circles are posted on JBSA under the hunting tab. Rules for hunting this year are still being reviewed. Looks like a total of 90 archery circles/areas will be available. No gun hunting this year. I heard that over labor day 3 day weekend they brought in a helicopter and shot 460 hogs. Good luck to all. Tom

Cobra768 09-28-2017 09:11 PM

Bullis hunt

So with the less spots this year I wonder how the turn out will be? Wonder if the gun hunters going to try in a little bit of archery or just not even go out there? I would love to know the hog population after that 460 being dispatched...also read in the paper a few weeks ago about them possibly setting up posion feed to get rid of them as well. Hopefully it doesn't come to that because I'll go take down so hogs! Good luck y'all and hopefully see y'all out there!

Cobra768 09-28-2017 09:16 PM

Has anyone been out there to dove hunt?

Anyone else seeing this in the lottery section of iSportsman after purchasing a lottery "permit"? I'm assuming this is from last year?

Yes...it's from last year. I have it too but what matters if in your permits you have the 2017-2018 WTD lottery ticket. That section is when they draw and it will update

1337hunter 09-29-2017 08:33 AM

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure! :)

Jimbo47 09-29-2017 11:57 AM

Mine said status...."Pending the draw."

L C 09-30-2017 09:20 AM

I was lucky enough to get drawn this morning, but unable to select a stand. Anyone else with this problem?

5qu1n7 09-30-2017 09:36 AM

Won a Lottery Draw

Still can't choose location, but sure enough would let me pay for the WTD permit. Where on the website would there be an option to choose the stand, under what menu?

JUST GOT 8B2. Good Luck everyone

5qu1n7 09-30-2017 10:01 AM

If you won the WTD lottery please call Rustin or Tray to select a stand please be patient as we are inundated with calls, we will get to everyone as soon as we can. 2102958339

riley05 09-30-2017 10:48 AM

I am wondering if all 90 spots were taken yet. I, unfortunately, did not get drawn. I hope there will be something left over!!!!!!

L C 09-30-2017 11:02 AM

When I spoke to Rustin at about 1030, there were about 55 permits sold and about 35 stands selected.

I'm not impressed with the method of stand selection.

5qu1n7 09-30-2017 12:00 PM

I got 8B2...looks to be a good stand location

I didn't get selected but my son did and we got 7-3.

riley05 09-30-2017 01:56 PM

That is awesome, 7-3 should do you good. Congrats to lil Cobra!!!!!!!! GO JOE!!!!

born-two-hunt 10-01-2017 09:50 AM

The computer selection process was again all screwed up. After 4 years in a row of screw ups one would think all the bugs would be worked out. You could buy your whitetail permit but no stand/circle locations were offered. It became a cluster????, trying to contact someone with the message they posted on the home page- please call Trey or Rustin with no phone numbers listed in the message. Trey turned out to be the Game Warden who was listed in the Rule book as Archie Cooper, who would know that? Did anyone who got picked notice you were not asked for your Texas Hunting License info? As a result people showed up wanting to put their equipment up who had not purchased a license. I am back in 10-1 after that double drop tine in my avatar that I had on camera 2 years ago. Good luck to all that got selected, Tom.

Any word on how many stands are left? And if there is going to be a second draw? I had my sights set on 7-12.

So I see that it says a second draw will happen if there are spots left does anyone know if there is any left?

riley05 10-03-2017 05:50 PM

Well any winners on the second draw??? Email this morning stated there were 7 spots left. I guess I'm in for round three, though it doesn't look good.

Yeah...didn't get the second draw either. Another guy I work with didn't get it either. The chances look pretty slim!

TxBowman2015 10-03-2017 09:11 PM

Tuesday win

I got picked up on the second draw today. Anyone have any thoughts on the 11 section, or 3A section? There are a couple in each of those still left. Also, it's saying $50 for the wtd permit. I thought it was more. Did it change this year? Thanks for any thoughts! First year out there!

It did change. Paper scouting had my wishlist looking like this. 3c4 was closest to area 7 which hold some great deer. I know there were some nice dwet taken from 11 in past years and it is usually open.
Good luck this year.

At least Lil cobra will get to hunt. What area did he draw.

Thanks Riley05. Are there stands out there already, and can we bring someone with us hunting out there? Oh, and was that your wish list or did you see the remaining secondary draw list because that's what they say is still available.

riley05 10-03-2017 11:17 PM

That was my wishlist for the remaining 7 spots if I got selected on the draw. You will need either a pop up or a tripod stand. They are not allowing tree stands anymore. Feeders are a good idea. And you can have a non hunting guest.... I took my son with me many times.

Lil' Cobra got 7-3...we hunted 2D last year so new to TA 7. I have been paper scouting that area and saw a couple of spots I want to scout when it opens up. Does anyone know if we can assemble a wood platform to set a pop up on out there? I would build it at the house and disassemble it and just reassemble it out there.

born-two-hunt 10-04-2017 09:58 AM

You can build a wooden platform if you like but a simple popup blind is what I use. As far as someone hunting with you, yes it is permitted but they must also get a permit which is free however they are not allowed to hunt. All of these questions are answered in the 2017/18 hunting rules under the hunting tab. Remember you are hunting on a Federal Military Installation so any hunting infractions will be enforced. Do not rely on word of mouth to get info on hunting Camp Bullis, read the rules. Another big change this year is the harvest quota, 4 deer and only 1 can be a buck and you must harvest a doe first. That means after you get your doe you can take a spike or mature buck over 13 inches inside spread but not both. In other words a spike will be your 1 and only buck you can legally take. Read and reread the rules because the penalties can be severe. Tom

L C 10-04-2017 01:35 PM

Regarding rule changes for this year, I applaud them. Well done. They ensure does are removed and allow most hunters to get a chance at a buck.

L C 10-04-2017 01:42 PM

For those that haven't been out there yet, allow extra time for check-in. They'll require you fill out all your information by hand and require your printed Bullis permit, hunter Ed card, license, vehicle and insurance.

Thanks Tom for that info...I read the reg but it says temporary blinds. I was wondering if anyone had already asked that question to the people out at Bullis?

born-two-hunt 10-04-2017 03:11 PM

I have bow hunted on Camp Bullis for the past 28 years and the last 5 years have been messed up in one way or another using the JBSA drawing system. The biggest improvement this year is doing away with the kiosk computer sign in/out and relocating this process back to Outdoor Rec/Rod & Gun building where the game cooler is located and parking is plentiful. There are real people there also. I have some ladder stands that I use to use out there but according to rules are not legal now. Make sure all your equipment has your name and hunting permit # on them. Tom

L C 10-04-2017 03:34 PM

Tom, I'm on your side. I think the temporary strap on ladder stands should be legal. I guess somewhere along the way some hunters have ruined it by puncturing the trees. I've seen great big beautiful live oaks with swimming pool ladders grown into them and make shift platforms put in. Looks terrible. I'm guessing the biologists just don't want to take the risk anymore with oak wilt and other diseases so prevalent.
