I'm impressed with it, EXCEPT...

...I've recorded hundreds of files, between the Osmo and the Inspire 1 drone, and only one time previously have I had a corrupt file on the memory card. That one was only one of a few takes, so losing it wasn't critical. After the weekend I learned that it happened again, this time with the file that contained the shot! I was able to recover part of it when I got back home, but it ended 17 seconds before the shot.

Fortunately, when using the phone to control the camera, it records a low res version to my phone. That's why the footage you see of the shot is so much poorer quality than some of the preshot footage. I'm thankful to have the backup, but I'm frustrated that the original was lost.

Out of curiosity, what did you age that deer at? I am aweful at ageing deer and guessed him at 4-5, but I know you and he had to be way older than than that!

Axe Man 02-10-2017 10:13 AM

Great video!

Mesquite Archer 02-10-2017 10:17 AM

Nicely done sir!

Matt_C 02-10-2017 10:19 AM

What kind of broadheads are you using Mike?

Abcdj 02-10-2017 10:21 AM

Good stuff! Congrats on the successful hunt.

ultrastealth 02-10-2017 10:27 AM

Excellent video. Not a lot of fluff, multiple camera angles, show the setup well, show the stand and the whole area. Take note bowhunting TV shows, this is how it should be done.;)b

JSBrit 02-10-2017 10:39 AM

Nice video. Great looking deer!!!

I never looked closely at his teeth, but don't let the smaller body size fool you. Look at his head and eyes.

That deer was also badly run down. Take a look at his spine, both on the hoof and skinned.

I have the skull and will try to get pics of the jaw.

Wasp Jak Hammer 125 ;)b BTW, they aren't any kind of sponsor for the site or the channel, I'm just a long time fan and they've worked REALLY well for me. Tried and true.

Thanks! Y'all don't hesitate to comment and subscribe on the YouTube channel, as I'm trying to develop the channel and I think more activity (likes, comments, shares and subscriptions) increases exposure on YouTube allowing them to become featured or suggested videos. ;)b

Thanks Michael. Maybe an idea for a future TBH Journal would be ageing and scoring techniques in the field? Us East Texas boys rarely get a chance to see anything over 2-3 years old!

HeyMikey 02-12-2017 03:16 PM

Awesome video, as always, Michael. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent video! Enjoyed watching it. I would prefer to watch videos like this any day over the Outdoor channel stuff!

MASTERS 02-13-2017 01:39 PM

Great video, I cant begin to imagine the effort and money that goes into self filmed and edited hunts like you produce.

My wife occasionally reads these...not really all that much money involved. :D

I do have a bit of money invested in good camera equipment that I've accumulated over the years, but these days it doesn't really require a lot of expensive equipment to create good (hunting) videos. Most of the video I shot of last year's buck ("Drill One at 33") was filmed with a $600 Panasonic (the 1080p equivalent was around $400) and reverse angle GoPro Hero 4 (that I bought used.) Of course, I added the drone shots (filmed after the fact) for a different perspective.

It does require a lot of time to plan, set up and piece together the footage, though! ;)b
