Lake Lewisville

If you want to hunt Lake Lewisville this year, you better go get your permit soon. They started issuing permits today, and gave out over 200. You have to have your new license and hunters ed card (if applicable) with you.

If I am going to have to fight the masses for a hunting spot, I'd rather it be with you guys.

Instinct 08-17-2015 06:36 PM

They sure started early this year. Thanks for the heads up.

sethcros 08-17-2015 06:39 PM

I haven't hunted Lewisville before. Where do you go to get the permit?

Instinct 08-17-2015 06:44 PM

Corps office off of Mill street

Slow&Steady 08-17-2015 07:28 PM

I'll be there when it opens in the morning though, admittedly, I only duck hunt there.

Saw a ton of pigs along the greenbelt last year while paddling. If anyone has a canoe, it's an easy way to put some pork in the freezer.

LakeJake 08-17-2015 08:24 PM

With the water level this year, you can probably get a decent sized aluminum boat up there.

HeathJohnson 08-17-2015 08:29 PM

Thanks for the heads up. I want to get in on some of the hunts with you guys. I will be trying to get my permit soon.

BluDiesel 08-17-2015 09:02 PM

thanks for the heads up!

jswaringen 08-17-2015 10:42 PM

Got mine

This will be my first year out there. I'm hoping to take my nephew to get him started.

Shake N' Bake 08-17-2015 10:57 PM

I hope they have a few left by Wednesday!

Slow&Steady 08-18-2015 09:23 AM

I got permit #247 at 8:10 this morning. There were 6 guys there when I got there. They are giving out 600 permits, and yesterday was the first day they handed them out. If you want one, I'd make it a point to get there today.

L3mon 08-18-2015 01:34 PM

I stopped by yesterday around lunch time and the lobby was full, I got #130 if that tells you how fast they are going!

Shake N' Bake 08-19-2015 10:12 AM

Picked up permit #388 this morning at 8:30.

sethcros 08-19-2015 10:27 AM

I'm not asking for anyone's spots or anything. I hunt out at LBJ and wouldn't give anything away either. I'm just curious if it is worth hunting out at lewisville. I'd like someplace closer to hunt than LBJ during the week when I can't make it out to my lease.

Larry 08-19-2015 10:34 AM

Lewisville for bow hunting is hogs only if you're looking for a close spot to bow hunt. Grapevine, Lewisville and Lavon are all worth the effort. It just takes a lot of effort at times. Cooper Lake is another place that many don't think about. $48 APH and well worth the drive from Denton.

webstertroy 08-19-2015 10:44 AM

What time they open? I'll be there tomorrow

Larry 08-19-2015 10:47 AM

I found this on my one-of-a-kind googler machine for you...

Lake Lewisville Hunting Information

pervis 08-19-2015 11:11 AM

I will take on a hunting partner for bow season possibly duck if u ha e a permit and are able to hunt week days and some weekends. I mainly hunt w my 4 yr old who's a hog finding machine, so you have to be kid friendly. I have a boat and know exactly where to go. I'd like u to have a grapevine permit too. I'm willing to hunt w someone who knows grapevine as I've never hunted there and obtained a permit for there this yr also. It's an even better plus if u own land or have a lease you can bring a guest to. I own my own land also. And be prepared to get lost. It's super thick out there. If you fit this description send me a pm.

U must be willing to put in the ground time w me and work as a team

webstertroy 08-20-2015 11:32 AM

I would have but was on my 1hr lunch break!!! Took me 30 min to get there....

pervis 08-21-2015 11:18 AM

Bump for my offer. Read above

Larry 08-21-2015 11:21 AM

Go ahead and post some pics and spots. It's a public forum. Nobody's watching. I've never hunted Lewisville before, and I don't want to waste my time scouting, etc. Please tell me exactly where to go. Thanks and welcome to TBH!

webstertroy 08-21-2015 12:06 PM

Larry!! that's a good one!! Lol I will be putting some time in pretty soon.. Its to bad you cant use corn on corps land...

Larry 08-21-2015 02:36 PM

Oh, I thought I was being serious. Seems to work well for others.

Some corps areas allow corn. Whitney is one example. I don't see the harm in hand corning. It can make for more ethical shots, allows a hunter to size up a deer and make a better decision on something like antler restrictions before taking a shot, etc. I guess not allowing it works for some corps areas that don't want a high animal harvest rate.

I am thinking on doing a pat mayse corps hunt this year have you been there?

pervis 08-21-2015 06:22 PM

Webster shoot me a text u were the only one to answer on here I have too low of a post count to pm. Yeah no corn u just need to know where to go and be super stealthy. I've crawled w a bow on the ground to make shots. Last one I shot walked right into me shot him at 20 yards

Chosen010 08-24-2015 09:22 PM

I walked for days at various spots on Lewisville and Lavon last year, didn't see a hog one. Plenty of signs and some deer, but no hog. I've got all three permits this year and was even drawn for the deer permit on GV. Have a kayak this year, so I've heard that provides great access to some less busy areas...

I am also happy to take on a hunting partner for a trip or two. I'm new to bow hunting, but I'm not dumb or careless or new to hunting in general, and I prefer you be the same if you care to go out together...

Hit me up...

pervis 08-25-2015 08:00 AM

You may have to send me a pm my post count is too low. Not new to Bow hunting just new to this site. My number is listed above, shoot me a text

L3mon 08-25-2015 03:04 PM

I don't want to put this out on the public interwebs. Someone who is familiar with ALL parts of Lake Lewisville, can you please PM me? I have a question, specifically hunting north of 380, NOT in the Denton part..

Bad day?

Or are you always this sarcastic?:D

Larry 08-26-2015 09:06 AM

Sarcastic? Me?? Never.

You're going about it the right way. Never mind me, I'm just beating the dead horse from the other public hunting threads. :D

natesimpson74 08-31-2015 05:10 PM

Where do y'all see that you can't use corn? I only see rules that you can't bait for migratory bird.

Larry 08-31-2015 05:19 PM

Page 6 of the USACE Fort Worth District Public Hunting Guide

18. Is baiting allowed on Corps of Engineers hunting lands?
A hunter may not hunt migratory birds with the aid of bait or on or over any baited area. Contact the site manager of a specific lake for information on using corn to bait deer or other game animals. Note: Hunters are responsible for knowing whether an area is baited or not.

Call the Lewisville office and ask. My bet is they will tell you that you cannot bait corn for hogs on Lewisville. Why they just won't publish it is beyond me. It leaves a grey area, and they almost seem to like it that way.

natesimpson74 08-31-2015 05:25 PM

That's what I had read. I have been trying to call but they just transfer me to somebody who doesn't answer their phone or return messages.

pervis 09-01-2015 04:40 AM

If u know where to go and pattern them no corn needed

Shake N' Bake 09-01-2015 02:28 PM

I stopped by the C.O.D. land north of 380 today on my lunch break and talked to a guy dove hunting. He had his MOJO and decs out but said he had been there since sun up and hadn't seen a single dove....

natesimpson74 09-01-2015 03:08 PM

I haven't heard much good anywhere today for doves, I have been watching a lot and I just haven't seen them as much this year.

pervis 09-02-2015 07:01 PM

Lookin for dove in all the wrong places, let me sing it for u guys. Made an offer up there ^^^ crazy only one guy contacted me. If I could figure out how to post pics on here, had groups of 40 flying by me.

rch 09-02-2015 07:29 PM

Not crazy at all if you knew what this forum and its members are all about. Maybe settle in, contribute to the forum, get to know some people and let some people get to know you. Just being honest and please don't take offense.

pervis 09-02-2015 07:45 PM

Just scouring. It can take almost a yr or more to figure out where to go. If someone wants to hunt public and not b a flake as long as u have the permits I will take u. Read the above posts b4 contacting me.
