Homemade apple pie shine

Got this from another site and tried it, it's awesome.
1/2 gal apple juice
1/2 gal apple cider
1 cup white sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
750ml Everclear

Mix all but the Everclear in a pot and heat till it's almost to a boil, to make sure the sugar desolves
Remove from heat and let cool. Add the bottle of Everclear and pour into Qt. jars and you're done.

PS, it's really good mixed with Vanilla ice cream too

Ellen 01-28-2012 06:00 PM

Definitely gonna give this a try with the ice cream.

hully1029 01-28-2012 06:25 PM

this is super good, but be careful or you WILL drink too much

cpr1979 01-28-2012 07:02 PM

Had a buddy make me some. All i can say is wow

Brandon1574 01-28-2012 07:08 PM

Interesting

firecapt186 01-28-2012 10:26 PM

Be sure and let the mix cool before adding the Everclear, you stand a chance of losing some of the alcohol content if added when it's hot. And, don't leave any of the cinnamon sticks in the bottled brew, I did to see what it would do, way too much cinnamon after a few days.

Making it now

Redneck Archer 01-30-2012 01:09 PM

I think I would drink myself into a stupper with that stuff...

but would be great one those cold hunting days (if it was warm)

nutterbug 01-30-2012 01:18 PM

do you have to "can the shine" after you put it in the jars? Wondering if they need to be sealed in a traditional canning method to prevent spoilage, it will make about 1 1/2 gallons? will it spoil?

elkoholic 01-30-2012 01:40 PM

MMMMMMM...sounds so good!!!!

DorothyNotKeegan 01-30-2012 01:49 PM

I think I could easily OD on this stuff with some ice cream or even coffee!:)

I would guess the Everclear would prevent it spoiling, but would like to know as well.

lonestarjae 01-30-2012 02:05 PM

Heading to the store tonight.

txstrapassassin 01-30-2012 02:10 PM

I didn't, I just poured in the jars and put the top on them. Like posted above, I think the everclear keeps it pickled, LOL. I only have a 750 ml bottle left, I gave the pint jars to friends, and it's been on the counter for about 6 days now.

Ron Meloni 01-31-2012 04:14 PM

Had some of this over the holidays. Oooooph!

fleaboy 02-05-2012 07:57 AM

firecapt186 02-05-2012 09:41 AM

I have a fresh batch made for my Super Bowl Party later ;)b

Chicken and sausage gumbo, with a side of tater salad and some garlic bread to sop up the last bit of gumbo juice................and some apple pie shine for desert..........

tookeymonster 02-05-2012 12:42 PM

It is O so gooooooood!

Be careful with leaving the cinnamon sticks in the brew, if you're going to drink pretty quickly (days), it's fine. If you plan on letting it sit and age or gifting it, take the sticks out after a few days, the cinnamon stick along with the apple juice/cider and sugar will start the fermentation process again. You will get a few hints of methanol, not enough to hurt you, but will def. add to the hangover. And make sure that you jar it back into food grade jars and lids.

I will not disclose where my knowledge of this comes from. :)

BuckySWT 02-05-2012 02:02 PM

hot dawg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my wife's close friend has a friend that makes apple moonshine for special events (i.e. New year's).

it'll knock you on your keyster and it goes down smooth...too smooth.

I bet this is pretty dang close. Her friend won't give up the recipe, so I gotta try this one!!

If it's as good as the stuff I've had before...I'll be a VERY happy camper!!

HoustonHunter94 02-05-2012 02:58 PM

They always have some of this at the tent I go to at the HLSR. I am looking forward to having some more this year...good for hangovers and getting started again. :-)

DFA 02-13-2012 05:14 PM

This sounds real good. I'm gonna have to give it a try..Thanks for the recipe

akey 02-13-2012 10:50 PM

was awesome

kfd82 02-18-2012 02:31 PM

Making some right now. ;)
I'll let ya know how it turns out....if I can still type. :D

It's heating up in the pot now.

kfd82 02-18-2012 03:43 PM

Looks like it's gonna be kinda syrup-y.
What's the preferred method of drinking this?
Over ice, room temp from the mason jar, some other way?

Unless the everclear cuts the heck out of it, I think it's gonna be way too sweet to drink more than one shot of.

kfd82 02-18-2012 05:41 PM

Ok. All doubts are removed.
In a glass over ice is Awesome!!!!

firecapt186 02-19-2012 10:57 AM

I prefer it at room temp. I've drank it over ice, but when the ice melts, the water seemed to change the flavor. I just got home from a weekend mardi gras parade/camp out/party and brought a jug of it. Most were serving it with whipped cream and it was really good that way.

RaginCagin 02-20-2012 12:07 PM

Belizaire guna hunt you down for posting his recipe, LOL.

Naaaaa, I swapped him a study guide for his Fire Equiptment Operator's test for it....................;)

Mr.RonGilbert 02-20-2012 06:58 PM

I am due for another batch.... just need to get this job behind me so I can have some time to enjoy it.

I have a quart of Lightnin' all ready to go in place of the Everclear.

The last batch is long gone.

New product i found are soap stone cubes. They work well for drinks on the rocks instead of ice.

It flows real nice out of a frosty shotglass.

BigTex.308 03-01-2012 05:11 PM
