Idaho

So with the season getting closer who is planning on coming to Idaho to hunt? I will be our in the next week or so putting cameras out in the area I will be hunting. Ended up not drawing anything worthwhile so I will spend most of my energy chasing elk. Anyone that's interested in joining up let me know as I will be solo or with the wife for the most part. I am willing to do the leg work so you don't have to. Anyway what will you be hunting and when?

coon007 06-29-2014 06:12 PM

wow what part of Idaho will you be hunting ? I own some acreage in Orofino ID.

josh3 06-29-2014 06:22 PM

I just had a buddy who took a new territory with our company who moved to Coeur D Alene.

32drawlength 06-29-2014 06:34 PM

Nice gesture here

Whirlwind 06-29-2014 06:43 PM

I'll be in the pioneer zone unit 49 to be exact. Near Sun Valley

32drawlength 06-29-2014 08:09 PM

How's the elk hunting in that unit?

Whirlwind 06-29-2014 08:12 PM

Did you see eastman's article on Idaho? Elk numbers are above projection in the unit. It's suppose to be from what I have heard from idfg the next area to put out a state record.

twobanger 06-29-2014 08:30 PM

Just got back from there. My friend is hunting just south of Oakley.

CARLOCK 06-29-2014 10:39 PM

Ill bethere in 2015 I have some family that out that way...good luck this yr..

3DW5 06-29-2014 10:45 PM

Did he draw a tag? Pretty sure that's a controlled area.

huntingfanatic 06-29-2014 11:46 PM

Great gesture there. Idaho is on my list for 2015. Already trying to do some homework for there Hitting colorado this fall.

twobanger 06-30-2014 12:53 AM

Cow tag.

I have trained dogs near that area...is that an OTC area or by draw only...I will probably hunt with my brother who is a resident in Eagle but like you did not draw a tag either, so we will look toward the eastern part of the state, but the pressure there has been very high the last couple of years both from the hunters (two legged and four legged)

It's a OTC for archery. Rifle hunt is controlled to only 200 tags.

little john 06-30-2014 07:09 AM

Bump for potatoe country

Whirlwind 06-30-2014 08:21 PM

No one else is hunting elk or deer up here?

Hunter Dan 06-30-2014 08:25 PM

I'll be there Oct. 18-25th, I have an Elk and Mule tag.

General season? If I don't fill my archery tag I'll be chasing mulies then too.

BBReezen 06-30-2014 09:47 PM

It won't be anytime soon but I would like to get up there for an elk hunt. My grandma was telling me this weekend that some family members used to make a trip around Challis every now and then years ago. I looked it up last night, 36B right? Is that draw tags for rifle as well?

This is what you would have in 36B.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/01/8u4equzu.jpg it's in the Salmon zone and more than likely do the B tag. Issue with that is tags sell out fast. Though that's the area.

Whirlwind 07-01-2014 08:09 PM

Anyone have any interest? I got the area narrowed down to two areas. One area had a 380" bull taken from there last year.

Whirlwind 07-05-2014 01:38 PM

I have had a couple guys pm me with interest. I am dead set on helping a brother out if they want to hunt archery up here. Little sneak peak of some critters that I have located.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/06/ezuhytuz.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/06/buzybamy.jpg

I am definitely always interested since I did not draw New Mexico and decided to get my 5th preference points for ELK and Deer in Colorado. I am 0-3 on Elk so I am always open to opportunities to keep trying. Sun Valley area is right up my alley and my wife's....lol. Are you thinking packing-in, motel, travel trailer? How many days as I am flexible? Looks from what you typed I can get a bull tag over the counter?

Whirlwind 07-05-2014 01:57 PM

Yes it's the pioneer zone so you can get a tag over the counter. Sub valley isn't far away. My plan is to pack in and days are in the air right now. I am not sure about the rut and when it happens but may try and get a elk down opening weekend if I can. If you want to chat about it more send me a pm

Mister Bubba's bulletman 07-05-2014 08:42 PM

Just got back from there. Man it looked great.

BIG IRON 07-05-2014 09:21 PM

Thanks. Figured someone out there would like to chase some elk without having to go into it blindly. Right now there are two of us but it may be myself flying solo most of the time.

I might keep this in mind if the offer still stands next year.

Sounds good. Unless I draw a premier tag next year I am sure we can work something out.

CARLOCK 07-29-2014 10:30 PM

Ive had to shift gears and will bethere mid september ...can't wait..

Whirlwind 07-29-2014 11:05 PM

I'll be out scouting again Thursday-Sunday. Who wants to tag along?

ETXBow 07-29-2014 11:15 PM

If I were not expecting twins in November, I would go in a heartbeat.

I hunted Unit 13 a few years ago and it was the best hunt I've ever been on, even though I didn't shoot a thing, and never got within 20 yards of an elk. Just being in the mountains was enough for me.

Whirlwind 07-30-2014 11:02 AM

Looks like i swill be heading out in the backcountry solo this weekend. Kinda sucks that I don't have many hunting buddies up here.

MLank 07-30-2014 11:05 AM

Or you need TBH friends with plenty of free time and airline miles. Ha.

Same here. Can't do it this year, but starting to think about next year. Out of state prices seem pretty fair. Way better than Montana!

IDAHO_BOWMEN 07-30-2014 12:05 PM

I wish!!! I have killed a lot of elk out of 48 and 49.

Whirlwind 07-30-2014 09:23 PM

I should pick your brain a little but skylar about 49

My brother will be scouting somewhere in units 56-57 this weekend after dog training in the AM...I am still planning on hunting with him opening weekend after I spend ten days training dogs in Montana

CARLOCK 07-30-2014 10:12 PM

I wish I had flyer miles I'd be there in a min..scouting with ya..I think we are hunting 50-51..

Whirlwind 07-31-2014 12:03 AM

Well 50 isn't far away at all. We shall see what I find. It will be fun to just get away.

Landrover 07-31-2014 12:34 AM

Sounds like you are putting in the effort to figure out the area. The pics look very promising!

Atfulldraw 07-31-2014 05:24 AM

wish I'd seen this yesterday....

we left Coeur d'Alene Monday night and spent the night in pocatello or somewhere close.

made it back to Texas tonight.

nice gesture!

DorothyNotKeegan 07-31-2014 07:44 AM

What a gesture!!

Looking forward to seeing results from this season!

Stroke 07-31-2014 08:07 AM

If the offer still stands in 2016, Sign me up! I told my wife that I wanted to go on my dream hunt, archery elk, for my 30th birthday present.

Sent you a pm.

Hoping I am able to find some more critters. Heading up today after work so I may have service and can post some pics while up there.

Whirlwind 07-31-2014 05:56 PM

Well I am off for a couple days. I'll report when I get back. Went and bought a new camera so hopefully I see some critters.
