Lake Grapevine 2016-2017

I figured it was time to retire the old Lake Grapevine thread and start a new one for the 2016-2017 lottery and hunting. Let the rumblings and grumblings begin...NOW

LilMissHunter 05-18-2016 01:08 PM

I've never hunted lake grapevine even though I grew up going to that lake... Getting my permit June 6th and looking forward to it!!

Well, there are no deer there so you can't post pictures...... If there were deer there and you did post a picture, be prepared for a beating with a wet noodle. Nobody is to know there is even a lake near here! :D

there you go using the D-word, we all know they are a myth and don't exist. The only animals at the vine are water moccasins, spiders, and the occasional gal on a bike.

LilMissHunter 05-19-2016 01:47 PM

I'm interested in hogs right now I have my own deer hole for deer season.

Good luck to everyone, there's nothing there but copperheads

LilMissHunter 05-19-2016 02:51 PM

Good thing I hunt copperheads:p

webstertroy 05-19-2016 02:56 PM

When can you get the permits?

Shake N' Bake 05-19-2016 03:19 PM

I will say this, I've been putting in for Hagerman and Grapevine for the same amount of time and I've gotten drawn twice for Hagerman and 0 times for Grapevine.

Texas Grown 05-19-2016 10:24 PM

For as long as the Grape has been flooded now, ya might as well take fishing poles instead. :D

Edit: It is down to +5.04 feet above normal at this moment. :D

dlinzy 06-05-2016 12:25 PM

All the Deer have learned to climb trees, so keep looking up!

Blood Trail 06-06-2016 08:00 AM

Showed up early and there's at least 200 people in front of me. It's crazy.

Glad I got there when I did. They said duck permits probably won't last past today

They sure are going quick lol I know a few guys that were talking about how it was off the charts but it was a day too late to snag a permit last year.

Now I gotta look into building a blind for the boat as much as I hate hunting out of a boat but it'll be my backup plan if the lakes stay flooded this fall.

Trying to decide if I should leave work early to try and get a duck permit. Probably couldn't make it out there until 3, hell they may be gone by then

You'll be good.

NTXhuntr07 06-06-2016 01:31 PM

I left at at 12:30 and I was number 182 for ducks.

SFAbowhunter 06-06-2016 01:34 PM

Y'all think all 500 permits for waterfowl will be gone today? that would be a record if that happens.

SFAbowhunter 06-06-2016 02:00 PM

I called the office cause someone on TBH said the amount of permits were going to be doubled so I had to call to check. :D

Kidding kidding haha

Mike @ the office did say they have given out over 200 waterfowl permits and last year they ran out after 39 hours (5 days), and says he doesn't think they'll last very long this year.

LakeJake 06-06-2016 02:16 PM

Line is less than an hour right now...

Holler when you're ready to start that blind.

125Dad 06-06-2016 02:54 PM

How many deer permits do they pass out?

I think I seen someone said 500 duck permits.

JBT 06-06-2016 02:57 PM

deer is lottery and as far as I know they will issue as many as are requested up until cutoff date

Chimera 06-06-2016 03:15 PM

Literally just walked in and out in 5 minutes but it sems to be picking up though.

They're around #300 on duck for those curious.

SFAbowhunter 06-06-2016 03:31 PM

Yup, just left there. I was almost 300 on the waterfowl, 250's on general, and 170's on deer lottery numbers. Got in and out in about 10 minutes.

CSF45 06-06-2016 05:58 PM

I was #288 on waterfowl @3pm

Yeah, that's the only thing I'm interested in and I'll go once it has settled down.

Texas Grown 06-06-2016 07:50 PM

Dang. I was think-n about get-n a duck permit there this year. Won't be able to go till Friday. Got some fond memories from my younger days though. Scored my only Golden Eye there back when permits were not needed.

Blood Trail 06-06-2016 11:09 PM

Half the ppl with duck permits don't duck hunt. Warden said after they started stalking hunters not 6ft in the water off the shore and giving out tickets, the word spread fast.

Not sure why that rule is. Can someone explain?

I was wondering about that too, that is the only lake I've seen that rule on. I have no idea why they would have it.

it may be a parking issue, here's why: water 6' from the bank is typically too deep to wade, requiring a canoe/kayak/boat of some kind, which leads to parking at a boat launch and not at one of two corp parking areas.

If that is the case, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Guess I'm glad I have a boat to use but I hate hunting out of it.

I'm not sure but I did see a couple guys with wardens last year that were hunting off the bank. The guy behind me in line left when he heard the rule yesterday

My guess is to reduce the number of natural brush blinds that are left up. By the end of the season, there's a pile of sticks every 100 yards.

Lol in terms of USACE, it makes perfect sense lol gonna call the ranger and ask him a few questions later today. Wonder if they'll cite me for hunting out of my but but anchored next to shore.....bit technically floating in like 2 inches of water? Haha
