Life Style Change...

After more than 40 years of smoking I've made it 3 weeks without. Did it cold turkey after being sick and figured it was time.

I've also restricted my "happy hour's" to weekend only and on the 3rd week of that as well. Already saved some $$ not buying on the GS, lol!!

I have raised a lot of HELL for many years, worked hard and lived hard but want to do my best to live as long as my health will afford, so doing my best to kick the habits and enjoy my family for years to come, God willing.

Can't guarantee I'll stay "smoke free" but dam sure going to keep the mindset to stay clean.

Just wanted to share...my kid's and wife are amazed...so far, and I'm doing my best to keep them amazed!

A couple months after having my first child, I quit cold turkey. I'm glad I did and haven't looked back since. Keep it up, it will get easier.

kae006 03-15-2019 07:55 PM

Congrats, keep up the streak! Out of curiosity, why would you consider going back, self control?

sailor 03-15-2019 08:02 PM

If I can do it... So can you....

The comment I made was based on my past life work experiences and the demons that "sometimes" still haunt me? Not going into detail, but what I experienced in a world most never have to deal with.

I know this is vague, but it is a part of me that never goes away and I've realized never will. Some call it PTSD, I don't call it that as I feel that's a "catch all" definition and not a reason to "not self control for some?"

Just specific to me, but obviously NOT a done deal as the desire could creep up anytime to ease the pain and memories...yep, a crutch. I hope not but I know I'm vulnerable and the battle still rages on even as age progresses.

A valid question and I hope this helps you understand.....

Leon County Slayer 03-15-2019 08:22 PM

Keep em amazed!

bobby314 03-15-2019 08:29 PM

Go for you man, stay strong.

wow 03-15-2019 08:35 PM

Good deal. I quit 20 years ago cold turkey. Then quit drinking a year or so later.
I feel for you about the demons. I just call mine ghosts. They are always there then suddenly pop out.
I get cravings at the oddest times like 3 am or in the shower.
I still take it 1 day at a time.
GOOD LUCK an PRAYERS.

boy wonder 03-15-2019 08:44 PM

Good for you and your family, keep at it!

12RingKing 03-15-2019 08:53 PM

I quit cold turkey too. It was tough and I still get occasional cravings and it’s been 8 years or so.

If you fall, just get back up on the horse!

Burnadell 03-15-2019 09:11 PM

Good on ya! Keep at it.

I promised my wife I'd quit smoking if we got pregnant. Quit when she was about 6 months in. Our daughter is almost 10 now and I've never touched em since the day I sat them down. Keep focused. You can do it. I honestly do not miss it and only regret not doing it sooner.

gneimeth 03-15-2019 09:39 PM

Hell to da YES!

Crazy Horse 03-16-2019 07:35 AM

AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!
Keep it up and stay strong..you can make it brother man!!

Prayers for strength and will power

cashcropper 03-16-2019 07:55 AM

Congrats to you Sir. Sometimes you need a reason or purpose to quit. I dipped snuff for 30 years before I stopped. My reason was that my craving was stronger than my self control and that angered me that I was that weak. I put it down, prayed on it and never went back. Be strong, you got this.

tps7742 03-16-2019 08:01 AM

Congratulations and hope it continues. Do it for the Family if no one else.

stickemhard3 03-16-2019 01:47 PM

Congrats!! Keep it up. I’ve lost a grandmother and most recently a grandfather from smoking. Grandpa was in great health minus the COPD. Got pneumonia and his lungs couldn’t handle the stress and quit on him.

Acameron52 03-16-2019 02:16 PM

You can do it. You’ve done the hardest part in just deciding to quit.

joeperot 03-16-2019 02:51 PM

keep right frame of mind and don't give in.

texashunter 03-16-2019 02:54 PM

Good luck

Uncle Saggy 03-16-2019 05:16 PM

Thanks all...by the way, my wife is a smoker so the added pressure, BUT...has not been a problem so far. Actually it's helped her cut down as she is sympathetic to my cause.

And NO...I don't give her any BS as I know it's a personal decision and you quit when you are ready or not.

Appreciate all the comments and prayers, staying strong and determined!

Hang in there Brother! I was just joking with my wife today about only her still smoking? With me not buying smokes it's $60/week saved and it's going towards guns, ammo, hunting, whatever, lol.

She never gives me any gripes about our hunting costs so just another benefit when you smoke as much as I "did" everyday.

Huntingfool 03-16-2019 06:52 PM

Sir - I congratulate you for your efforts and trying to better yourself.

There are two things only that will keep you on the right path - faith and family.

Believe that the Lord is with you each step of the way and never forget the impact you have on your loved ones - what you do will affect them for the rest of their lives

Prayers to you for continued strength

TacticalCowboy 03-16-2019 07:02 PM

Sounds like you have the right mindset!! Realizing you don’t HAVE to have it is the first step.

Fair enough, you didnít owe me an explanation, but thanks for taking the time anyways! How have you felt physically since quitting (once the cold passed), do you *feel* better in the mornings, etc?

Payne346 03-16-2019 10:51 PM

Good luck!

Plain Lucky 03-16-2019 11:39 PM

Keep it up, you can do it!

My dad has smoked his whole life and always been in good health. He used to be an avid quail hunter but stopped about 20 years ago due to lease costs. Fast forward to a couple of years ago, he joined my friends and I on a guided pheasant hunt. He’s in his early 60’s and although he wouldn’t admit it, the walking long distances isn’t near as easy as it should be. I know he loved the hunt but it was disappointing to see his years of smoking holding him back.

Robertt 03-17-2019 12:47 AM

Bought a pack when I was 16 years old because the fireworks stand didn't have any punks to light them. Turned 57 this year and can't imagine the money I have wasted all these years. I know I need to quit but the problem is until you want to quit you won't.

CabezaBlanca 03-17-2019 08:06 AM

I quit cold turkey also. Tomorrow will be 6 months and 3 weeks smoke free after 35 years. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Keep it up, you got this!

Rubberdown 03-17-2019 09:01 AM

Good stuff man! I’m working to give up sugar and caffeine. I’m shocked how hard that is. I can’t imagine giving up smoking.

rvd 03-17-2019 05:07 PM

Good for you and those that love you! Will keep you in my prayers.

Mudslinger 03-17-2019 05:42 PM

Congrats and hope you can stay with it!

RascalArms 03-17-2019 06:59 PM

Good for you Kuma...keep it up

quarterback 03-18-2019 04:09 PM

Brother Kuma....just now saw this. I'm very proud of your decision to quit. I swear nicotine is the devil. I got caught up in the snuff habit for way too long and finally went to the doctor for chantix. It helped me quit so don't be afraid to go that route if you have to. Stay strong and remember the cravings only last so long and then they pass. You can do this.

CRM_95 03-18-2019 04:26 PM

Good work!!

quackaholic1 03-18-2019 05:03 PM

I used tobacco for over 30 years and quit cold turkey> You can do it, it may not be easy but never give up. If it gets to much just ask the Lord for some help. He will help you.. By the way i quit oer 20 years ago and feel better now than i did then..
