You can fashion your own by screwing an eye bolt into a wooden handle and cutting the circular portion of the eye bolt down to make a half moon. You then proceed to use a friction/ compression method. I personally have straightened tens of thousands of arrows with the shaft tamer and it is my tool of choice. I have never had an occasion or need to use the ace roller but do not see why it wouldn't work.
If I see a bad spot on one end or the other I usually make that the point end because if I can't get it straight it usaually gets cut off anyway. A trick I use to take that little crooked section out is to put an 3/16th piece of metal under the very end of the shaft to eleveate it and then put the shaft tamer on it. It usually works.
