PSA - Don't leave anything in your truck

I got lazy today and left my backpack (containing my laptop and a couple of Cisco Precision HD Cameras) in the back seat. I drive a 2001 F350. I made certain that all the doors were locked before I went in for dinner. I went in to Chili's at Stassney and I-35 in South Austin at 5pm and came out at 6:30pm. All my doors were unlocked when I came back out. Just at that time there were three Texas DPS cars pulling into the parking lot. I flagged them down and told them what I found. They were very nice and connected me with Austin PD. All my doors were unlocked when I came out of Chili's and my backpack containing my laptop and 2 Cisco Precision HD Cameras was stolen from the back seat floor board. They left a $2,500 Cisco TelePresence unit that could be clearly seen. My rear windows are super dark tinted and no way anyone could have seen my backpack. I know I will never see my laptop again and I am really ****** at myself for not taking my backpack in with me as I normally do. I just got lazy.

This is the second time in 3 years that my truck has been broken into. The first time nothing was stolen as there was nothing to take.

Don't leave anything in your vehicles.

With the west coast good comes the bad and the ugly.

A buddy just got tools stolen out of truck off Metric. Second time.
Last time...he tracked known local thief down...guy was walking down street with his tool bag...and dropped it running when confronted.

        Good PSA DRettele

Ive worked in austin for 10 years. I've had to replace 6 truck windows. A couple were for nothing. 1 time they broke it just to take 2 dollars in change.

Same happened to me off slaughter and 35 a few years ago. Was going out of town for a vacation, broad daylight in a very busy shopping center, we went in for 15 min tops. They busted the door lock with a screwdriver, took our bags, and backpack cooler, but left my toolbox and tools.

I try to look at it as good it worked out the way it did, had I caught them in the act, they would have fled in a hurry and I shudder to think what could have happened with so many people with kids walking around.

It definitely sucks and I feel your frustration.

Sorry to hear. Thieves suck. With the current climate, it's only going to get worse.

I have an old truck that the alarm hasn’t worked on for years. Guess I need to get that repaired ASAP. Bastiges.

Be glad your truck was still there. Mine wasn’t.

Very true! Glad they didn't take my truck. I had put a lot of work and money into it this past fall and I really don't need to be truck shopping right now.

You couldn't pay me enough to work/live in a big city.
