Me & the Wife went to our place this weekend. 1st off we didn't get out of here till 10 pm fri ,because of work issues at wife's job. Next thing we are on 190 between Killeen & Lampasas & all the sudden I see a deer running at the truck. Feel the hit & then another impact. Glance out mirror & see a deer body sliding into the other lane. Truck next to me hits it. I slow down & the other truck goes by & I see steam/liquid coming from under his truck . Tell momma he ain't going far. Get out & see blood & guts all down the side of trailer & guts splattered on tailgate & jack on trailer. No visible damage on truck. Take off & right around curve see truck on side of road. Get to Lampasas & wife looks in trailer. Says you have body parts in trailer. Sure enough chunk of lung about fist size in trailer. Wash mess off trailer & truck in San Saba & see a small dent where deer hit right behind wheel well before trailer got it. Finally get to ranch about 3 AM.
I sleep in on Sat AM. Momma doesn't see much. Do a little loading in middle of day & then go out to hunt. Feeder goes off at 4:15. Look & see a nice 9 pt down road feeding . Few minutes later hear momma pop a cap. Get a text, 10 pt down! Big 9 keeps feeding down road & figure if he gets in bow range gonna get him. Finally have him at 19 yards & let him get right & let an arrow fly. Looks like a great shot. Deer jumps them stands there. I'm like Ok ,I saw arrow go in. He starts walking off like nothing happens, just flicking his tail some. Watch him about 50 yrds & he disappears behind brush. Give it 45 minutes & tell momma bring the pup. About 20 yrds past where I last saw him ,he is laying dead. What a great ending of the day! 2 nice bucks on the ground & now work begins!! There is a story behind the 10 pt too. Weekend before we were feeding the road coming back from town & I am in bed of truck & all the sudden momma hits the brakes & throws me down. I holler WTH you doing. She says look in road. Big buck. I look over cab & sure enough a 10 pt in road. We have no gun. I tell momma just drive by & lets go to the house. Deer barely walks off the road. We get to the house & I tell her get your gun. She says its in stand. she forgot she left it in there. We were 50 yards from blind. Lord lord. Anyways she hunts the rest of the day & next morning & doesn't see him. Really dejected how we messed it up. this Sat evening & he walks out ,so GLAD for her!!
