Laid my grandpa to rest today...

The farm is my favorite place to go, but today the trip there and back was the worst one ever I could ever imagine. We laid my grandpa to rest in the small cemetery in Weches, TX. I had the pleasure of speaking during the funeral and I thought I would share my thoughts on this wonderful man.

“Many of you know him as Bobby, but to a select few of us we call him Bops. You see he wanted to be called Pops but when I was just learning to speak my “B’s” were much stronger than my “P’s” so it came out Bops. Looking back on it now it all fits, a unique name for a one of a kind man. You see I have been struggling with finding the words to describe our Bops. When you have a man that was as wonderful and dedicated to his family, it is very difficult to summarize him in a few words. So let's just look at the name Bops.
B is for BUILDER. Not only was Bops a well known builder of homes and businesses but he was a builder of faith and family. His involvement in the raising of grandchildren was second to none. Just as a house is only as strong as its foundation, Bops was highly dedicated to ensuring that his family had that strong foundation of values, in which to build a life upon. The impact that he had on people truly cannot be estimated. Through his involvement in the church he was a builder of faith for countless numbers of people.
O is for ORIGINAL, Bops was Bops and he never tried to be anyone else. His personal sayings were numerous, quotes like “It’s good enough for who its for” or “Take you time going but hurry back”, are just a few of the many unique sayings that we find embedded in our daily life. With Bops you alway knew what you were going to get, he was true to his beliefs and values.
P is for PASSIONATE. You can ask any of his children, grandchildren, relatives or friends and they will all tell you that Bops was passionate about his family. This was evident by the classic Bops smile. The smile that was filled with love and joy. A smile that will truly be missed.
S is for STRENGTH. Bops exhibited strength in all aspects of his life. From building his company from scratch, to dealing with loss, to being there for his family in their time of need. He was a pillar of this family. Regardless of the issue or situation, Bops was always there to comfort and provide support. He also exhibited physical strength, the man could work. Even up until his passing, he could easily work circles around most of us. His work ethic was second to none, and has left a lasting impression on all of his family.
To fully describe such a special man in such a short amount of time is a mountainous task. It is through his teachings, his dedication, and the personal touch that he had on all of our lives that we carry and pass on his memory. I think I can speak for all of us when I say, Thank You Bops! Your impact was greater than you will ever know.”

Bops prepared you well sir. You won’t fill his shoes. Like you said he was one of a kind. He has prepared you with a firm foundation to lead and be your own role model for your kids and some day grandkids. We celebrate his homecoming while offering up a prayer for comfort for you and the rest of the family as you mourn his passing.
                    God bless you.
