Fixing to get a little more serious looking for a Shallow Sport. Never bought a boat before other than a 14’ aluminum in college. I have no clue how much markup is normal.

Is negotiating a boat purchase the same/similar as a truck purchase?

I'm about to buy a new bass boat. There's 2 that I've found, that I really like. One is in Alabama, and one in Oklahoma. Both are brand new.I talked one down $2k over the phone. This is really just a guess, but I think there is quite a bit less profit margin on boats vs.Vehicles.I could be wrong though.

I am no help on typical markup, but form what I have seen, there is at least 10% markup. The problem is people are willing to pay that markup price because they can finance for 10-20 years on a boat, so it doesn't hurt so much on a monthly basis to buy that $80k boat.
Same thing happens with RV's. You see guys with two and three year old RV's for sale for "payoff", and payoff is only $2-3k less than a new one.

I also need a truck and I did some looking on Thursday and Friday, even with it being the end of the month, there were five, 2019 units on the lot with aftermarket tires and rims and they were still $10K over list price. Those dealers are not hungry yet.
