Is negotiating a boat purchase the same/similar as a truck purchase?

I'm about to buy a new bass boat.There's 2 that I've found,that I really like.One is in Alabama,and one in Oklahoma.Both are brand new.I talked one down $2k over the phone.This is really just a guess,but I think there is quite a bit less profit margin on boats vs.Vehicles.I could be wrong though.

I am no help on typical markup, but form what I have seen, there is at least 10% markup. The problem is people are willing to pay that markup price because they can finance for 10-20 years on a boat, so it doesn't hurt so much on a monthly basis to buy that $80k boat.

Same thing happens with RV's. You see guys with two and three year old RV's for sale for "payoff", and payoff is only $2-3k less than a new one.

This and a bunch of dealers still have ‘19s on the lot. Closer we get to ‘21 the better those prices should get. I’m not in a hurry.

I hope you are right, I would think you are right, but I am not seeing it yet. I too am shopping but looking at bass boats. I am waiting on a good used deal and it might take the end of the stimulus to get things moving our way. I know that Skeeter stopped production on new boats for about 9 weeks so they don't have an overstock at this time. Dealers might have a few extra but they ended the $6K rebate and only offering a $3K presently.

I also need a truck and I did some looking on Thursday and Friday, even with it being the end of the month, there were five, 2019 units on the lot with aftermarket tires and rims and they were still $10K over list price. Those dealers are not hungry yet.
