So how great is the Texas LB championship?

I have heard that this is a good shoot but have never had a rig to shoot it with. Well, my old longbow broke and my new one should work, just need a few more woods. So how good is it? I really like Vanderpool, and i don't expect it to be that big, but is it that good? Pics and information have been hard to find. So what ever info you got toss it out there

    Thanks

Awesome shoot. Love the format! There’s some tough targets but it is the championship. My first year was last year and I’ll make it every year after that!

You start day one group by lottery and day two you shoot with your day one score peers. Outside the 8 line is 2 points and inside is 5 points. Miss is still 0. 50 targets. Meeting before start time both days. Wear bug repellent because I got some ticks in some pretty personal areas of the body last year! That’s all I got.

Oh, they buckle 20 places but a win would be next to impossible with those guys.

Chester, Vanderpool, TSLC; top 3 shoots in the state of Tx, in no particular order!!!

It’s good enough that I shot in it 29 years ago and it’s still going strong!

I was hesitant to go to TSLC for a couple years when I finally went it turned out to be an excellent shoot.

Do you have to shoot woodies?

I may have to give it a whirl then. I have been shooting poorly this year, so buckleing is not on my list of things to worry about, i will just be an "also ran" i am sure. I was mainly wondering if it would be worth building a set of woods, and it looks like it probably will. Thanks and if anyone has any more input please offer it up

I believe so, that is what has kept me from going in the past

Yes! And you have to use a one piece bow that has a riser that fits in their jig.

I’m good with that. My Bear Ausable should be good to go as far as bows go
, but I just started shooting wood out of my recurve. I need to renock my string for the different diameter arrow. I’ve been shooting microdiameter carbons and my woods are super nock high out of it.

I’ve actually got some new red balau arrows on the way. My current ones are POC footed with purpleheart. They’re not really the straightest, so it’s been kind of an issue but I’m hoping the new ones will be better.

I've always been primarily a recurve guy, but I love longbows too.

I've been to the TSLBA shoot twice. Loved it both times.

It's as good as a shoot gets, and you won't regret it.

Yes great shoot. Yes the bow jig is a pain for some folks. I wonder if when the jig was introduced was that when they did not have to worry about more than 250 shooters anymore??? Just saying? I'll be there ! Arvin

Arvin, that jig was there back when, if you didn’t preregister, you didn’t get to shoot.

Started going in 2011. Always a great shot it’s on my top favorite shots.

I do think there’s a considerable number of people that get left out because of the jig.

My two cents will be to split it on two categories still shot wood arrows But have an open ( any type of longbow 10 buckles and an Texas longbow one piece 10 buckles)

Just my humble opinion I’m all about bringing new people to traditional archery
