    Garage Transformation

It is a constant battle to keep my garage organized with all the kids bikes, scooters and toys. My wife doesn't help the situation with her strollers and liberal use of anything in reach to be used as a catch all between the van and the house. Of course, I don't help the situation either. A solution to the mess was needed.

Neither of our vehicles fit in the garage anyway so, I built a closet. It measures Just shy of 7ft wide and 12ft long. The goal was to be able to move my shelves ( 2 large gladiator units) out of sight, hide most of the kids toys, all my lawn equipment etc. The only stuff that would be seen would be a fridge, freezer, tool chest and weights.

I started this project last weekend with the help of my buddy Lee and with an agreement with my wife that she would interrupt me as little as possible. We finished yesterday.

I used 2x4 for framing. Got the door from my local Habitat for Humanity Restore store. Some discontinued laminate flooring from Lowes for the wall covering and used 1x6 Cedar for the ledge and trimmed with 1x4 cedar all around. The ledge is braced with a 2x2 and 1x2 underneath and a 1x2 across the top. It is strong enough to support someone leaning on it, setting their beer down, etc.

I need to go through everything and organize it now but, it is finished. Everything will be out of sight, I still have room to workout and park my golf cart.

That's the key right there, or at least it would be with my wife!

I like the use of the LVT on the walls. Looking good.

The Restore could be one of the greatest home improvement stores there are. I can't believe the quality of some stuff that comes through those places for cheap.
