    dove/quail/turkey water trough?

Does anyone have any pics or experience in setting up a small ground level water trough for birds? I have a cattle water tub that sits up off the ground that is hooked up to a well. I'd like to run a hose with a float valve to a long skinny water trough that I can bury and make it ground level for the birds. I'm having trouble finding a trough that would work. I'm also wondering if the cows will tear it up...

You mean a bobcat/hawk feeder? We ended up doing away with all quail feeders for this reason. You could always count on seeing a couple hawks nearby.

Easier to put a ramp up to it and a rock in it to stand on instead of burying. You want it up off the ground to keep it cleaner.

Just let the trough overflow, the birds will drink out of the pools in the ground.

Any reason why your birds can't fly up to the ledge to drink??

the water level in the above ground tub is probably too far down for dove and smaller birds to sit on the ledge and drink. I bet I could rig up a 2x4 across the middle right at the water level, that way the birds could just land on that and drink. I'll try that first.

What material is the cattle water tub? Two solid suggestions above. The ramp will be much less messy, than running it over if the cattle tromp through or you have hogs. Water Well also works less.

I’d like to see pics of what y’all come up with. Always have a ramp of rocks or something to let the smaller animals that fall in escape.

I would suggest small hog panel pen if you have cows and hogs. That float system can be expensive to repair. At least build a sturdy cage over the plumbing end.
And a dirt ramp framed with rocks/bricks. I put rocks and cinder blocks inside my trough too.

I don't know how to copy the link but search "Wildlife Water Install (Picture Heavy)" created by Coachwhip. It is one of the best wildlife waterer designs I've seen
