    Sharkbite Fittings PEX to Copper

Doing a bathroom remodel and the plumber is dragging his arse. I need to replace the iron nipples from the copper supply lines to the vanities in 2 bathrooms (the vanities are shared lines). I'm looking at just getting a copper tubing cutter and the shark bite fittings and replacing it myself with PEX.

Any issues with sharkbite fitting from folks that have used them?

I have never used them but know a couple of plumbers that swear by them. They use them exclusively on water heater replacements.

Nothing wrong with them just make sure there isn’t any burrs on the pipe that will cut the o ring inside them .

I redid my shower manifold with them around 3 years ago. No problems.

I used them on my waterheater and my outdoor shower and have never had a problem. I would use them OP. Also save you some money. I bet

I replumbed my entire house this past summer with PEX. I mostly used crimp fittings but I used SharkBite in a couple of places that were hard to get crimpers to and where I converted from PVC to PEX at the main coming to the house. Make sure you buy the correct size and you should have no problem. They also sell a removal tool for about $2 that you can use to salvage your fitting if you need to due to a missed cut or something.

I have used them in multiple applications and had very few issues.

I’ve consider redoing all the plumbing in my house to PEX.
Something I learned is if it’s in a critical spot don’t try to remove and reuse a fitting if you need to change it. Maybe the tool for removing fittings is good but in my experience they never bite as good the second try.

                  Easy to use, but pricey.
I used them to move plumbing around in a shower remodel and no problems at all.

Just curious what the few issues were? I am thinking of using these as well and some videos do not recommend them is why I ask.

When I did my piping, I used the crimps.

A plumber friend suggested NOT using the Sharkbite fittings for an extended period of time. Those are his words, not mine.

I have a plumber friend that says the same thing.

Nothing too dramatic. The biggest issue I had was not being able to re-use fittings. It could’ve been user error but it seemed like they never fit as good as the first attempt. Also it is critical that the pipe is square and reamed properly to make sure the fitting is not damaged. I had a few leaks that came from pipe not being square or rough on the outside. Lastly I had a few times(very rare) where everything seemed perfect and the fitting still had a drip. Usually I just replaced it and moved on but that always made me nervous. It could’ve been random failures or possibly something I did wrong on the install.

I used them when replacing a water heater and so far so good.
