My Dad and I give each other a duck hunt every year for Christmas. Unfortunately, we don’t get to spend a ton of time together during the year, so we both look forward to this hunt every year. With that being said, my Dad was getting ready to give up on duck hunting. He started about 9-10 years ago after watching me run dogs in hunt tests. We made a couple trips to Stuttgart, and multiple trips other places. For some reason he was just “bad luck”. We always seemed to hunt the days AFTER the birds were there. In the 9-10 years he had never shot a green head and never shot a limit of ducks!
After talking to a few people, and getting multiple recommendations for Edd Hanson with Hanson Outdoors, I went ahead and booked the trip. Edd was booked most days, but was able to squeeze us in this past Friday.
I have hunted with a ton of guides over the years, and even guided some myself. So I feel like my opinion holds some merit. Edd Hanson is one of the, if not the best guide that I have ever hunted with. He was honest, genuine, fun, knowledgeable, respectful, etc.
My only request, was that we try to get my Dad a green head. Edd put in a ton of time and effort trying to find a “guaranteed” green head hole (as impossible as we all know that can be sometimes). Needless to say, he found them!
We had a heck of a hunt, and ended up with 25 birds. We should of had an easy 5 person limit, but missed a ton of easy shots.
My Dad’s flame for duck hunting has been re-kindled thanks to Edd Hanson, and I can’t thank him enough!
