    10 gauge shotguns?

How many of y'all hunt with a 10 gauge? Do you like the performance better than a 3 1/2" 12 gauge? I'm throwing around the idea of getting one. I've about narrowed it down between a Remington SP-10,Browning Gold or maybe a side by side 10 gauge of some kind or another if I end up getting one. What are y'all shootin?

Used to shoot one. Much better patterns with large shot over 12 ga 3 1/2 in guns. Get a semi auto. Your shoulder will thank you if you shoot much.

Used to have a Browning Gold. It was heavy, but that was a good thing. It didn’t recoil much for the amount of smack down it slung out the other end. Handling was great for as big as it was. Highly recommend it and would definitely buy another.

I got an Ithaca Mag-10 (effectively the same as the SP-10) for my 14th birthday. Killed deer on drives on my grandfather's "club" in Alabama and plenty of geese and cranes since then. Great gun and only problem was with Federal ammo many moons ago.

I have a double barrel 10ga, American Arms Waterfowl special 32" barrels. The gun handles very well for it's size. And yes it does out shoot the 3 1/2 12ga.

I really like the semi autos. There's just something about those side by side shotguns I really like too though. My buddy has one that was made in Spain. It's heavy but it kicks less than my 12 gauge shooting 3 1/2" shells I think. I really don't ever notice the recoil much unless I'm shooting sitting down or shooting at an inanimate object instead of a critter. But then again I weigh about 145 pounds so I guess I should be able to feel it somewhat.

I have shot a Browning Auto Gold 10 for the last 15 plus years at geese and cranes. Love the gun. The 12- 3 1/2 shells may look the same on loads but the 10 shoots so much better with tighter patterns and larger loads. Would not trade my 10 for anything. One thing to think about, I don't shoot 3 1/2" out of my 12 due to the fact that during the hunting season I seem to accumulate a few loose shells at the bottom of my field bag. To easy to confuse the two when your trying to load quickly with more birds coming in. If your looking for good 10 ammo, Rogers Sporting Goods (on line), has some good Federal loads available at a good price. Just got my 2 cases delivered Friday for the season. BBs and #2s.

Always have wanted a Remington SP-10 or an Ithaca 10ga "thumper". Still have my eyes open for one. However, both of those gun have been out of production for awhile now. I hear replacement parts are really beginning to become a problem , especially for the Ithaca. (And with Remington being sold just don't know) But it would still be hard to say "no" to a really nice one of either. Ed

I had a browning gold 10. It was a great gun. I sold it b/c I just wasnt in the goose field enough. Imho the only reason you need a 10 is if you do a lot of goose hunting.

                            Go with the Browning Gold.

You will have a hard time finding a SP-10 I would think considering the years they were made.

A side by side I would think would be brutal. As was my BPS 10ga.

I picked up a BPS 10 in a pawn shop years ago to try. It was just too bulky for me. I shot much better with something that was quicker pointing.
