    Slug gun??

opinions on the Mossberg 500 with the rifled barrel? I was looking at them for the public land I hunt says you can shoot a slug 100-150 accurately with them. wondering how true that really is!

With the right slugs it should be attainable

I don’t know about the mossberg but I do know that the Savage 220 20ga will shoot accurately out to two hundred yards. I shot my biggest buck ever last year in Illinois with it.

I just got one for my wife to use on a hunt we won in December. Filled the stock with lead and put an RMR on it. I plan on sighting it in this week and I will let you know how well it groups.

you can only shoot sabot slugs out of a rifled barrel. rifled slugs are for smooth bores.

aren't sabots rifled slugs? either way how accurate you think a smooth bore with a rifled slug can shoot good to 100?

Right on! I have a mossy 500 combo I got on sale at cabelas - imo their barrels are better than savage and Remington- plus, you can't beat mossy's customer service. just find the right slug that works for you - getting accurate to 100 to 150 is definitely doable- good luck!

does all mossy 500 have tapped and drilled holes on the receiver to mount scope?

If you want accuracy, a cantilever scope mount will be your best bet. The mount is attached to the barrel permanently. You can then mount a scope to it. And should be pretty close every time you change the barrel out.

I've used the receiver holes on mine (1st production run 835) with a mount and rings. That set up is great when turkey hunting with smooth bore. But it was not near as accurate as what my cantilever barrel is.

                        Remington Express 20 gauge.
                        Fully rifled barrel.
                        260 gr Remington AccuTip slugs
                        1.5” high at 25 yds
                        1” high at 100 yds

Cantilever mounts only come with the barrel. They are a permanent fixture to the barrel from the mfg. But make a huge difference in shooting accuracy.
