    Changing Careers?

I've been fortunate enough to have a well paid career in retail for the past 13 years. I can't complain at the money I've made because its been far more than I probably deserve. But as things changes I find it harder and harder to take pride in what I do. I've been considering a career change and going into something that I can take pride in. When I was a youngin I worked in a cabinet shop and loved every second of it. I've been thinking of going down that road again. How many of you have made a 180 career change and ended up happier in the end?

Do it. As long as you can be financially stable and support all of your needs(including the family) I say go for it. It is terrible to dislike your work... Best of luck to you.

I’m doing it right now. I quit my job I had for 20 years 2 weeks ago. Im confident in my decision and everything should work out as long as I don’t do anything stupid.

Change is scary, I left my job after 10 years in February. Best decision I have ever made. I have never known what it was like to go to bed Sunday night smiling! Put some money aside and go for it!

I’ve been pondering this for sometime now. I’ve been working on cars since 1995, in 2011 I started a shop at my house & have worked for myself & byself since then. But for the last 8 months or so I’ve been thinking about making a change. I haven’t completely made up my mind yet but I’ve really been thinking a going back to school & chase the game warden career. I’m 42yrs old & just not sure I can go through with it.

I remember a time when I woke up charged and ready to get to work to climb the ladder. I did it. Looking back the sacrifice wasn’t worth the reward. I miss having pride in what I do and I miss being happy to wake up and go to work.

                Been there, done it

All I can say is, if you don't like your job and you have an opportunity to get out..........

                DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

I did it 14 yrs ago, took a pay cut and it was tight for a few years but now I make more money in 40 than I did in 78
Plus I work 4 days a week instead of having one guaranteed weekend a month

By far one of the hardest choices I ever had to make, but one of the best

I left a good profession after 20 years about 18 months ago. Haven't looked back since. I had a safety net in that I could step back in my old job without much worry so I had less risk than most. Good luck

                    I’m in the process now.
I own and have operated a concrete company for about 23 years. It’s had its ups and downs as you can imagine. I used to love it. But the last 5 years I have literally hated it. Mainly due to employee issues.
I have been a part time bowyer making traditional bows for about 8 years as a pass time and a way to support my hunting habits! Lol. It has grown to the point I have decided to do it full time and quit the concrete. Not near as much money but WAY less headache and I absolutely love doing it.
So I started paying off all my dept this year and am almost completely debt free. I will be completely out of debt and be doing what I love full time by the 1st of the year. The thought of having way less stress is worth the risk!! At least for me.

Met a 62 yr old that graduated the academy at age 62. If he can do so can you. Mind over matter type thing. I've been working on it for the last six years. Kids kinda slowed me down.
