    Tree ID

Well I didn't manage to shoot any hogs on my last two sits while the wife is gone, but finally got some pics of this tree i couldnt id when I was clearing the area last fall. Its leaves are sort of like yaupon, but smooth edged ininstead of toothed, and a little oblong like a hickory leaf. Too soft of wood to be hickory, but the bark is a reddish brown, and the wood is very red. Ideas?

I believe it is tree sparkleberry AKA farkleberry AKA tree blueberry, genus is vaccinium.

This is assuming you are in the east part of the state.

I see the resemblance but bumelia have whorled leaves not alternate.

Rusty Blackhaw? When you scrape the bark does it flake off easily and leave a reddish cambium? If so rusty blackhaw.

Sorry it's not the red cambium you would see but reddish color just under the bark flaked off.
