    Swamp Bedding

Anyone ever check out Dan Infalts Hunting Beast videos?
Tried to use some of his swamp scouting tactics but I don’t think our swamps are much alike the ones up north lol.

It really depends. But if you look at a lot of what he says about swamp bedding is that much of it doesn’t get utilized until you have other deer get pushed there by pressure.
Right now in north Texas we haven’t had enough rain for swamps to be anything other than a big ragweed thicket. I’m sure deer utilize them, but when he’s talking swamp he’s usually talking areas deep enough to normally be underwater.

Where I hunt I have more river bottom land than swamp. But I have applied some of the swamp principles and have found bedding in thick ragweed fields around raised elevation and trees that provide enough shade to justify them bedding there. And if you sit around a ragweed field this time of year and wait for the sun to go down, you will definitely notice that thermal shift take place once the sun stops heating a ragweed field. Ragweed holds heat like a cornfield if it gets thick enough. Unfortunately I see ragweed being utilized more by hogs than just about anything else and I think it throws a curveball to using beast tactics in Texas. I’m not sure just how much it changes whether they decide to have primary bedding but I’m sure it has some effect.

Just from what I’ve learned from the hunting beast I have used some of the same principles and found them to be advantageous. However where I hunt, the “swamps” are more like small trees with tunnels over mud and small creeks than a cat tail marsh. Which makes it even more difficult to hunt because I’m having to take a guess as to where deer may come out of the trees at and be set up perfectly. I am starting to think the swamp I’m hunting is a better home for hogs, and might actually be too much of a nuisance for any mature deer to hang around it.

I really enjoy Dan's videos. A) I enjoy hearing about different tactics & theories outside the normal hunting information we're used to, and B) I like watching hunting videos without it being an infomercial pushing this or that product.

Have you checked out The Hunting Public? They have tons of videos on YouTube and reference Dan as a big influence. They even did an "interview" with him not too long ago.

Yep! Watch all of THP videos. Their hill country and big woods scouting videos have helped me out a lot. I still seem to leave the woods with more questions than answers however. It’ll come in time.
