    How to eat a ram

Shot a ram two weeks ago and really wasn’t looking forward to eating it, but since I have been firm about “you kill it you eat it” with my kids, I knew we’d have to find some way to choke it down. Thankfully my ram was not an old one, and the meat did not stink at all.

I took it to Granny’s Tamales in Humble and told them to work their magic. And magic, they did. I only asked for 30 dozen and told them they could keep whatever meat was left over. I just didn’t want to spend $400 on a ram not knowing whether we’d like it. They probably used the quarters and kept the backstrap for themselves, but since I brought the carcass intact I don’t mind. They boned it out, cooked the meat, and disposed of the skeleton. Worth it for a couple of ram back straps.

So, we got em home and they are awesome! I will not hesitate to shoot another ram. The tamales are fantastic!

Highly recommend all Houston peeps give Granny’s a try if you haven’t already.

I was going to give you a sarcastic reply of “one bite at a time”, but now I’m curious about how those tamales taste.

I wonder if Aoudad would taste good in tamales?

A young Aoudad is not a bad meat. AND I have ate an older ram. We mostly cooked him like a roast on low and slow and in a cast pot. . LOTS of add-ins. In the words of good Cajun friends. "Anything is good once cooked in the cast iron."
The "Texas Dall" ram was old and he did taste a little sheepy, but not bad and I would eat another.

It has tasted good every way I've made it so far....so I'm sure it will be great.

I’m convinced that Cajun and Mexican dishes can make just about anything taste good. It has to do with the heavy seasoning, lots of fat, and long cooking times. Anything that is particularly skunky will he cooked that way.

Cook it in a stew and come out delicious every time. Barbacoa and birria are my favorite.

Usually you cook it in a large stew with lots of extras mixed in. Once its done cooking throw out the ram meat and eat the rest.

Redwing boot taste pretty good if you marinade it long enough

Yup you cant go wrong if you make goat birria. Youtube has plenty of vids on it, and you can use your smoker instead of the hole on the ground.

                            Add a little ranch dressing . . .

Best sheep I've eaten was terrible. Twice was too much for me.
