Nursing School - UT or OU?

My daughter got accepted to both schools. OU has offered enough scholarship to make it the same cost as UT. Wife and I didn’t attend either school. We are visiting both schools in the next 3 weeks. Anybody attend either school? What did you like/dislike about the university?

Lots of experience with both schools but not in nursing.
I heard the Arkansas has a great nursing program.

My son is graduating from AR in May. They offer out of state “scholarships” rates
Great town and environment in Fayetteville.
My daughter is at Texas, but It is not the same school I knew years ago.

The nursing part really shouldn't matter. No hospital cares where you received BSN at. Her effort/commitment will determine how well she does. Nursing school can be tough, if not focused. I personally would look at price. No point in being 70,000 in debt for a nursing degree. For the record, I went to 2yr associate program(Angelina jr collegr), then worked full time as RN while getting my BSN(SFA). I then went to Texas tech for my NP. I worked as a nurse for 11.5yrs before getting my NP.
I had colleagues over the years that were heavily in debt for nursing degree, and we get paid the same. I think most all the programs are good, everyone passes same state test. Other than cost, look at other factors that could be distractions or benefit to her staying on task.

well said .... doesn't matter where she goes. Just study hard, get excellent grades, pass the exam, and enter the real world with as little debt as possible.

UT nursing is one of the top programs in the country. Would be an easy choice for me.

Also I would think UT has a lot more connections for when she graduates in the Houston medical center area. Find out about when they graduate what their career center offers.

Nursing School - UT or OU?

I wouldn’t let my children live in Oklahoma, but that’s just me.

My daughter graduated BSN from UTMB-Galveston 2 years ago. She liked it. They have a fast track program that only takes 18 months but it is the full 18, no summer off. And the price for the whole program was about $15K then. That was without any grants, scholarships etc. Then they hired her!

Housing costs should be alot less in Norman, and I hate OU so thats tough for me to say......I think there would be less distractions at OU vs Austin......not alot to do in Norman

I would send my kids to UT-Tyler before Zero U!

Housing was our biggest cost at TT Odessa nursing vs Lubbock but no distractions in Odessa, like trees to look at, vs the Lubbock campus........

First off, Congrats to your daughter for being excepted to two very respected universities.
But the above is very well said. My youngest is taking the same path but at another college. Talk about a savings in education cost compared to the oldest daughters state school education degree.

Funny you say that. I only have sons, but the first thing I thought of was, no way in hell would I want my 18 year old daughter living in Austin. I barely like to visit Austin. Coach

UT is rated #22 out of top 25 but like Coach I wouldn't want my kid in Austin.
