    “Best” budget electric gate opener

Dad has been complaining about people coming up the driveway for awhile now and has a chain hanging across the road as the “gate”. So time to upgrade and figured a nice Christmas gift is in order.

Looking at 250-400ish.... is that possible?

Also any deals you guys see feel free to share them!

Been seeing the mighty mule a bunch with solid reviews so was looking to see some verification on them which is good.

My vote goes to Apollo, it may be a little out of your price range tho.

I have had 2 Mules, when they work they work and when they don’t they are worthless. System has a lot of slop in it if you plan to use the lock. It is cheap and for a reason. I’m sure some work better than others just will not be my replacement next time it goes out for good...

Ghost controls. I just put one on a 20’ gate and it works great. They also have a lock you can add at end of gate.

If a bigger budget is required what would y’all suggest?

I had one mighty mule for 5 years and was working when we sold the place. Have another one now for a few months and has been solid. First one had 110 for the battery charging and this one is solar. I buy the heavier ones as has been already mentioned. I honestly feel like the majority of folks having issues are not using them for the proper application or are improperly installed. Things have got to be level and set the position right or I can definitely see why they won’t last. I have seen some shoddy DIY installations in my area in the country that made me shake my head

And for double gate applications I haven’t seen many that weren’t sloppy if they don’t close against something. Another problem I have seen in my area is people build these big heavy wind catching gates and they are positioned where a strong north or south wind will catch them. The wind beats the heck out of them day and night and they wonder why it quit. I don’t think any opener would live long through that

I have had the Mighty Mule 350 for a little over a year now. I have the solar charger kit installed. Working great for us on a tube gate.

The MM's are just so slow. You can take a nap while waiting for one to open. It's almost impossible to get much over 7 or 8 years out of one. My neighbor has gone through 3 of them in the 18 years that I've had my Apollo that is still working perfect. The first Apollo I put in 23 years ago is still working.
