Well I headed to the blind Saturday morning around 6:45 am and got in and started getting my cameras set up and I looked out the window and see this guy under the feeder. It was still dark obviously and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Hard to believe I could walk in and climb up the ladder to my blind only 20 yards from this guy and him not see or hear me. So I eased the window open for a better look and sure enough he’s real. Now I just had to hope he would stick around until I could see good enough to shoot him! 30 minutes seemed like a lifetime but I finally decided to draw on him. Still just a blob in my sights but I held the pin on his shoulder and let it fly. Hit looked good! Not a pass through so my nocturnal was on the move. He ran through some brush about 30 yards out and my nocturnal was no longer with him. I watched him circle around about 80-90 yards out and I could tell he was hurting. He dropped off in a low area and I lost sight of him.
I gave it about an hour before I went to track him. I shot him with my Mathews Nocam HTX and an Easton FMJ topped with a 125 grain rage hypodermic +P. Total arrow weight is 501 grains. I’ll let the blood trail video say the rest
I’ve got a video of the shot but it’s so dark it’s hard to see. I’ll post it if I can get it lightened up.
