    checking on concrete prices

Long story boiled down to short. Just got finished fixing up the house from the flood 18 months ago, wham we got 63 inches in the house. Resale would be a nightmare. I have poured a lot of cash into the house. Replacement windows, metal roof and $117,000 brand new interior paid for by the flood insurance.

Checked on raising the slab 7 feet higher, lowest bid was $110,000. Decided to cut the frame off the slab, abandon the slab and move it out of the flood plain on the same property. I am going to build a concrete footing and beams, blocks on top of that, 6 by 6 treated sills, 2 by 8 floor joists on 16" centers and 1 inch tongue and groove sub-floor glued and screwed to joists, skirted in white Austin stone and a wrap around porch.

I was quoted $95 per yard for 23 yards of concrete. All they do is drive up, dump it and I spread it in the pre-built forms. Is that the going price of concrete?

Last time I bought it, I got prices from 90-125 yrd. (Austin area). I'd call a concrete contarctor and see what they charge. You might be able to get the concrete and labor done for the same thing you've been quoted as they can buy all of the materials cheaper.

That is a good COD price.

I am pouring a house slab in Pottsboro tomorrow, paying 116.00 a yard plus tax, I get a lot more than that for my concrete here in DFW but my deal is different from a ready mix operation. 96 sure seems like a good price, good luck to you on your project.

That's exactly what I paid in Fulshear, from Fulshear Readymix.

That's a good price for 3000 psi concrete. We were usually around $100/yard for 3000 psi mix, which typically tested out at 3500 psi after curing.

Keep in mind, their "dump it" is most likely back up to a spot, then empty truck. Not moving around. That's a TON of effort to move concrete, and it sucks.

In DFW that price is almost unheard of for a COD job. Like said above see if a contractor can quote you a better price as they get price breaks if they have an account. Best piece of advice either route you go is to be on the job when they pour and don't let them wet it up more than a 5-6" slump and you should hit your 7 day and 28 day breaks.

Then they mark it up, and you end up paying more.
I furnished all the materials, and paid my contractor for his labor only. I saved a few thousand dollars on a 90 yard pour.

I work for a large contractor on the water/waster side, and we pay 95.00/yrd. You are getting a very fair deal for COD job.
