I just ordered an oem1 colt 6920 and need to find a rear sight that will work well with the front sight it has...

I was looking at the magpul buis flip up but was curious what yall think.

Totally depends on what the gun is used for, for sights and optics, if you are putting on a scope, no back ups are needed, if you're going red dot from a reputable manufacturer, no back up needed, if your just doing straight iron sights the magpuls are good, also look at the diamondhead polymers.

Magpul makes a good flip up. I have the originals and the pros, I like them both. If you are running strictly iron sights I would get something fixed, like a Daniel defense rear sight. I know the carry handle sights aren't for everyone (ugly), but they are tough and serve their purpose well.

            Daniel Defense
            Troy
            Samson
Midwest Industries... All make nice fixed rear sights.

There are some cheaper options too... Leapers, NcStar

If you do want flip up, you can't go wrong with magpul.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with a portion of your statement. Even if you are using a red dot from a reputable manufacturer, I would absolutely run flip up iron sights and have the ability to co-witness if you plan on employing this weapon as a self defense tool or in a working capacity as a LEO. Or, for that matter, if the chance may ever arise that you need this weapon in a gun fight. Even reputable electronic sights can fail. They are, after all, a piece of electronic equipment. In a gun fight, is not the time to start wishing you'd have prepared for that scenario. In fact, my agency requires us to be able to do so just in case of such a scenario. Just my .02 and a different point of view.

I 100% agree, and if your AR style rifle is for self defense or Law Enforcement or military and lives are on the line, definitely add some back ups. Electronics will always fail at some point and Murphy's law would determine the worst point for that to happen as luck would prove. I should have called out that angle and use scenario but that is why I said at first about what the rifles purpose is ..would determine the sights or optics.

When it comes to self defense in my scenario, my ARs are not in that fight unless stuff really hits the fan and I need to grab and go, Otherwise, I have semi auto pistol very nearby and 18" Benelli close too and those are my go to if someone starts rattling my door handle.

All said I do 100% agree with you, I just left the self defense part out of the original response.

A lot of mounts will allow for lower 1/3 co-witness. This will allow you to run a red dot with fixed irons. I've even seen people run fixed irons with absolute co-witness, so that is one of those personal preference things. I prefer a flip up rear sight and a lower 1/3 mount, just to minimize the clutter in my optic. If using any magnification on your optic, definitely go flip up.

I have heard good things about the diamond head sights, no personal experience though. That being said, the magpul pro is my new favorite flip up rear. It's super slim, all metal, and has everything you need in a BUIS.

If you are going with iron sights only a carry handle with an integrated sight is a good option.

I think I've narrowed it down to either of the Diamondhead polymer the Troy round flip or Magpul Steel mbus pro

I like the diamond for it looking cool but not sure how the sight shape will affect aiming

I use to only use troy flip ups. I got some magpul pros and won't go back. I really like the rear with quick adjustable drop on it.

lots of variables involved with this question.

If I was looking for a rear sight for a Colt 6920 w/ A2 Front sight that I wasn't going to put an optic on I would definitely utilize a metal fixed rear sight. If you don't have a optic as your first option i'd keep my only option as simple and robust as possible meaning metal and fixed.
At that point it all depends on what type of look I wanted for the gun as that is the only real difference as long as you stick with reputable manufacturers.

Classic Military look? LMT rear sight
Modern look? Scalarworks OPS rear sight
Budget Friendly look? Daniel Defense Fixed Rear
