    Pulsar Apex XD38a

I know very little about thermals and am looking to get into one. With the little research I have done, the Pulsar Apex seems to be a good fit for my application.

I plan to hog/varmint hunt with the unit up to 200 yards so I would like to have a little zoom. Also looking to spend $3000 or less.

Does anyone have experience with this unit? Any other r commendations that meet my credentials?

    Thanks as always

Another vote for Jason. If you can wait, the Apex XQ models will be out soon.
        $2,499 for the XQ38
        $2,799 for the XQ50

Both have better specs than the previous XD38 and XD50

Hey guys, thanks for all the referrals! Main Frame, if you want, give me a call and I'll be glad to walk you through all the options and pricing. No pressure to buy anything at all, just free info and I'll gladly help you narrow it down based on what you need/want out of a thermal and what's in your price range. The good thing is, there is more stuff in the $3,000 or less price range than ever before.

So we are 100% clear are we talking about the Apexes or the Trails (or even the Helion monoculars.lol) Pulsar's new naming system is extremely confusing until you figure it all out and even then, you have to be specific if you are talking about Trails, Helions or Apexes. My rep and I have had 10 minute conversations where he was talking about the Apex and I was talking about the Trail and I never knew it.

Ok great, not trying to be a smart-aleck, I've just found its better to be sure on the front end with all the confusion this year.lol

I'm really impressed with both the Apex XQ38 and the XQ50. In comparison to the Trail's, my opinion in general is this..... If you don't need internal video recording, the rechargeable battery pack or the app that allows you to stream video to your phone/tablet and you are looking for more optical magnification then you go with the Apex.

If you really do want any of those features, you upgrade to the Trail and sacrifice a little magnification or pay more to get the same magnification.

If you don't care at all about the ability to record video and the little less optical magnification is fine with you, then you bump down to the Core RXQ30V and save your money.

You are essentially getting near the same image quality across the whole Pulsar lineup of 384x288 resolution scopes. In my opinion it comes down to budget, features and optical magnification. To answer your question though, I'm very impressed with the Apexes, especially for the price. They are a pretty good apples to apples comparison to a lot of the Armasight and ATN units and you are getting better specs (AMOLED, 17 microns, 50Hz) for a lot less money.
