    Opinions on scope/mount for AR

16' 223 RRA, not looking for any long range stuff, maybe out to 200yds. Looking to spend about $500. Most shooting will be sub 100yds, so I don't need anything strong. How is the Bushnell M-223? Thanks

Scopes are very personal, so I'm not going to address this except I like Nikon.

For the mount, we have converted ALL our AR mounts to this..Leopold designed for AR's and will do a great job up to 50mm bell. Some make the mistake of not having their scope to a easy eye relief and height which can reduce accuracy. I even have a buddy that the bell of his scope is touching the pic rail on his AR and he swears it's not a problem? Sorry, but that is always a NO NO with scope mounting.

Here is the Amazon model # and I swear it's sturdy and fit's the bill particularly for any AR mount. This is for a 1" up to 50MM

    Leupold 110290 Mark 2 IMS 1"

Thanks. I think I made a mistake, isn't the M-223 made by Nikon and not bushnell?

On my AR's / LR's, I have a Nikon P-223 3-9x40, a Nikon P300 2-7x32, a Nikon 4-12x40 Mildot, and a Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32 Side Focus. All of them are mounted in Burris P.E.P.R. mounts. I like the Diamondback HP Side Focus the best out of all of them.

          All the best,
          Glenn

I'll give another shout to the SWFA SS line up, they have multiple magnification at different price points. Great scopes! I use the Aero Precision ultralight mounts for all of my ARs. I recently switched to Leupold VX-R scopes but some of those plus mount might be at the top end of your preferred budget

I like the Nikon M223 for a 1" tube mount or the Aero Precision, both are very light weight. I have a Warne 30mm and a Vortex 30mm mounts. I like the Warne better than Vortex, it is lighter and just as sturdy. If you want bomb proof get the Vortex, it is built like a tank. You should really keep it a 1 piece mount, minimal, if any lapping, easy to add or remove. If you want high end removeable without any needing to rezero any Larue mount will do for that. I have a Larue for my Trijicon MRO and have never needed to rezero between taking it on and off.

Any experience with the Vortex strike eagle 1-6?

The one I had was terrible. Horrible fish eye at 1-2X and very fuzzy. I bought a Primary arms 1-8 for $379 and it was noticeably better.

I shot one the other day and it seemed fine. I have 2 buddies that have them and they really like them. I wonder if yours was defective.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Primary arms scopes.

I like mine. No fisheye and good glass for me. I use an American Defense recon QD mount. Holds the scope great but I think it's heavier than some others.

I'm thinking Vortex Viper PST 1-4 on a Burris PEPR.

I have a 1-4 viper PST mounted on a PEPR (sold by SWFA, labelled SSALT) with a throwlever that I no longer need (replaced with a 1-8 accupower). I'll make you a deal on it if you're interested.
