Longbow or recurve? What do you shoot and why?

My end game is to be hunting with a custom made longbow shooting cedar arrows. So what do you shoot and why?

My favorites are one of each from the "Texas Bobs" - a Bob Sarrels longbow and a Bob Lee recurve. I love how light and smooth the longbow is but I am currently shooting the recurve more accurately so that is what I am hunting with.

I shoot a Sarrels TD Recurve and an Acadian Woods TD Recurve with an extra set of Longbow limbs. I guess it all depends what kind of hunting I am doing.

I shoot a Sarrels recurve and longbow. I shoot both before I go out. Most days one will feel better than the other. That is the one I hunt with that day. Once one draws blood then I stick with the other one. My longbow is more forgiving but the recurve fits in my stands better.

Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow..........because I like longbows, and after 20 years of testing all kinds of them out, the Blueridge is THE ONE for me!!!!

Oh, and there is 2 more reasons too:

          1. Longbows go "THUD". Recurves go "TWANG". I like the thud of a longbow better.

          2. You really should use a bow stringer with a recurve, and you don't have to with longbows. I hate stringers!!!

I alternate between both. I shoot my recurve better. It hits harder and it just feels better to me. I have more confidence in it so it is my go-to bow but I've killed quite a bit with my 2 longbows as well.

I have a black widow psrv recurve and a plv longbow, they both have the same handle and are within 2 pounds of each other. Shoot almost identical

One day, I will bite off on the trad game. There's just something really awesome about taking an animal with such a primitive tool.

58 inch longbow of my own design! 59lbs @28"

Shelf is cut 3/16 past center so I can shoot a variety of arrow!

Been shooting a recurve for maybe 10 years just because that was the first form I built and I've been to lazy to make one for longbow limbs. Just been sticking with the same design for so long now.

I know it will drive some folks crazy but I've used a stringer less than a dozen times in all the years.

Sarrels Superstition longbow because when I don't have my head in my third point of contact it absolutely hits where I am looking! I also have a Bear Tigercat from the 70's that I love to shoot and again, when I am not my own enemy, I shoot it very well. Being 56" the Bear has a slight advantage in a pop up or ground blind

My go-to bow is a longbow. I started out with a Samick Sage, then bought a used custom longbow from Mike McCready. I liked it so much I had him build my current bow to my specs a few weeks later. While I was waiting on it I bought an old Shakespeare recurve too. I honestly like all of them lol. I recently got to fondle a Black Widow recurve, and since I'm a lefty and it was RH I didn't shoot it....but if I actually kill a deer with my tradbow this year I'll be shooting a Black Widow next year.

I've heard nothing but good things about Sarrels bows and would love to have a longbow made by Bob but it'll take at least a year to budget for one. In y'alls opinion is a longbow more forgiving than a recurve?
