    Three Rivers order placed!

Called and talked to a very helpful lady named Katie a while ago and placed my order. They didn't have the riser for the Samick Journey but I figured I'd get that from Amazon.

On the way to the house is a set of 45lb limbs, a Fast Flight bow string, glove, stringer, 150g field points, bear hair rest and plate and a dozen Beman center shot 500 spine uncut shafts. A neighbor is going to teach me how to bare shaft tune the arrows, cut them and fletch them with feathers (he has the feathers).
    Total cost there is $238.68.

Found a riser on Amazon new for $7.61 after my discount. I'm into the entry level recurve game for under $250.

    Now the darn waiting begins..........

Congrats! But that congratulations comes with a warning. It will be frustrating at first, but the first time it all comes together and that arrow goes exactly where you are looking, some file will open deep in the primal part of your brain and you will be hooked - forever! I hope you are prepared for a lifetime addiction!

Well put Jerp, I can remember a LOONNG time ago when I was beatin my head against a stump, never thinkin that I would be able to ever "get it"... Then one day I guess the planets aligned, Divine intervention, or somethin... And bam I hit the spot I was lookin at, and did it again, again.... Ain't never looked back, but hey, don't kid yourself, us that have been doin this awhile still have our days when ya just can't seem to hit the broadside of a barn! At least I do anyway! Remember Consistent, Repeatable Form, and don't continue to shoot when you get tired/frustrated... Put the bow down, and come back another day Its a blast, stick with it, and you will be rewarded! Consistent, Repeating Form... Good Huntin, and God Bless, Rusty

Thanks folks! In preparation for this I've been hitting the work out pretty hard. In the gym 5 days a week usually for a hour and a half before work and then running a few miles three or four times a week during my lunch hour. I'll be sure and only shoot a few arrows (maybe two dozen) after work each day. I am blessed to have a guy next door that's been doing this for 20+ years and actually spent 6 years living alone up in Washington completely off the grid surviving on what he hunted and fished. I'd guess he knows what he's doing.

          I welcome this addiction.

Welcome to the addiction. Having a neighbor well versed in trad is fantastic. I would also recommend you attend some TBoT shoots. Observe other shooters in action and pick up what you can from them. You will eventually develop a style that suits you.

For inspiration, and maybe a few chuckles, browse through this thread: http://discussions.texasbowhunter.co...highlight=book

Best of luck with your journey. Just don't get frustrated and remain calm. Start at about 5 yards and work back from there. The most important thing is to have your neighbor provide "Form" training and work on form. Like Golf, if you execute the same shot each time with proper form, consistency will result.

Remember also, some days you will be all over the place and can't hit the side of a barn. Put it down for a few minutes, go back and resume. A short break can clear your mind for a more productive session.
