    Anyone know?

7" plus 2% of the square root of your draw length, and adjust from there.

I don't know if this is serious, but I put the math to it out of curiosity, and assuming a 28" draw it comes out to 7.1", which I bet is very close. I was going to suggest 7.25, if the bow is the R/D design I found on google. Good Luck

I thought it was the square root of 2% of your draw length? You think you got it nailed and then bang!!! the rug gets pulled out from under you. Next thing you know it is really supposed to be 4 fingers under.

My 66 inch longbows have about 7 inch brace heights.

I thought longer bows have shorter brace heights.

I need to know as I had to put 20 extra twists in string to get from 5 to 6 and the string started to knot. If it's supposed to be 7 I don't think it's doable with this string and I want to know before I return 3 strings to the builder

My hill style 68" bow likes a 6.5. If your bow is an R/D bow I would think that it would be a little higher as in 7 or a little more. But every bow is different and the only way to really know is to shoot it and adjust it till you find the correct height for your bow. Can you call the bowyer? they would probably be able to help you if they are still around.

What is the actual length of the string without the extra twists? Have you actually measured the bow? I have ordered more than a hundred strings from Michael and never had a problem.

I have 6 66" longbows and this one is about 2" longer when put side to side to them. The bow was refinished by previous owner and has no markings.

                      Package is marked 65".

The 60" strings are marked 56".

The 58" strings are marked 54"

So I'm thinking these were made 1" too long?

I need to know the brace height and how many twists I can put into the string.

I've ordered around 10 strings from him with no problem. I'm not trying to be an *** I'm trying to use these if possible.

My understanding, and I'm hardly ever wrong, is recurve strings typically are 4" shorter than bow length and longbows 3" shorter. But like all things in trad archery there are all kinds of variations. From what you have said it sure doesn't sound like that string is gonna work. I would expect at least a 7" brace height.

I have a low forties 68" 21st Century Saturn and a mid-forties 66" Edge and for me (28" draw length) both favor a 7.5" to 7.75" brace. They'll shoot fine at a lower brace, but are quieter when higher. Your mileage may vary.

BTW, optimal brace height can depend more on bow design than limb length. As an example, both of my 66" Hills like 6.5"...not even close to the 21st Centuries.
