    Advice on Youth Target Recurve

My stepdaughter wants to get a new bow. I got her a Samik recurve 203 pull a few years ago and now she wants to upgrade to a 30-35# pull. a 40# pull is too much. She only uses it for targets.

Whats a good target bow for a 16 yo?

    Thanks

The Samick Polaris Recurves is what I tend to see most folks use. Sounds like you might have purchased her a shorter recurve with less draw weight. They offer more full sized versions.

Check out 3riversarchery.com and you can see the different sizes they offer. If she is really serious though about target archery... I bet there are some much nicer Olympic style recurves besides the Polaris.

If you are looking to sell the old Polaris, send me a PM as I am looking out for used ones for when my daughter gets a little older.

BTW, there are also a couple of archery shops that are or have expanded in the area Olympic recurve target shooting. Bowzone has expanded (they have a JOAD group now) as does X10.

Go with an ILF riser (International Limb Fitting); this way she only needs to buy new limbs each time she upgrades.

Here si a video in ILF...

Here is a link to Lancaster Archery's ILF Riser offerings...

They can get pricey pretty quick, but for your daughter I would start her out on a Cartel Fantom 25" riser...

There is a wide selection of limbs available, here is Lancaster Archery's offerings. Depending on her height, probably the short or medium limbs.

Again, this can be pricey; I recommend these limbs. You can get them between 30 and 34 pounds which fits your specs nicely.

And don't forget a string. Most will measure the AMO length and be 3.5" shorter for Olympic Recurve, others may be from 3" to 4" shorter. Strings are ordered and sized by the AMO length, so buy them based on the AMO length of the bow.

This will give her a very well built, high quality bow that is easy to upgrade in the future.

These are the bows I was referring to. Depending on her height and her draw length, you could go

          62" 36#@28"

You add/subtract about 2lbs per inch of draw difference. So if she only drew 26", it would be roughly a 32# draw for her.
