    Wheat - Soft or Hard?

What is the difference between soft and hard wheat? Does soft wheat do good in south central Texas?

For feeding deer I really don't think is makes any difference.

The difference is really in the grain product itself. Hard wheat has more protein and gluten in the grain. Its used to make bread and all-purpose flour. More hard wheat is planted in the US than soft wheat. Soft wheat is more for specialty flour like pastries...

Just make sure you plant winter wheat as opposed to spring wheat for fall food plots.

Thanks. I always thought people used hard wheat around here. Local feed store has soft wheat. Plan on broadcasting some in a oats patch in spots that the stand is not so thick before this weekends rain.

I have access to whole wheat grain. Has anyone ever mixed it with corn in a feeder? Will or do deer like wheat? I know they like the vegetation but the actual wheat.
