    Thompson Temple Prices

Just looked at His Web-Site last night and it looks like his prices have gone up:

    No Tag - $270
    Red Tag - $360
    Blue Tag - $ 500
    Orange Tag - $ 650

Can anybody that recently hunted there conform this ... I still think he's the cheapest and I just enjoy going to have fun.

He mentioned a couple of years ago that his prices would be going up. Said the Chinese were buying all the rams up at the auctions, so he couldn't get them cheap enough anymore to be able to sell them as cheap.

Supply and demand! Supply for animals is low so prices go up!
All animal prices have gone up the past few years.

I understand all about "Supply Vs Demand" but there is a Limit and that's why I can't wait until my "Better Half" passes her Nursing Board Exam = I'm getting a "Little Piece of Texas for Myself !.

He still had the same price structure as of Feb this year. The only thing was, he could buy any ram for $270. Over the last 2 years the yellow tag came into play. It was the price difference between what what used to be a green tag, and what he had to pay for the same quality of ram at the increased auction prices. I promise you won't find anything else as cheap as his.

The last few years I've just paid for the scenery and time with friends, and I do consider Thompson a friend. I always enjoy the time I spend with him.

Your exactly correct as I went on a Spring Break hunt and a No-Tag was $190 and just looked at his site and it changed. I too will continue to go there as I enjoy the ranch and atmosphere.

I've looked and there is only 1 place cheaper but I wouldn't call it hunting as most animals are shot from the back of the pick-up.

It all abut Supply/Demand and when the suppliers know you need something and they're the only ones ... They can Set the Prices.

The thing that does concern me is that in Jan when I was down there, he was tagging all the rams (ie. No "no tag" rams were being released) so if that practice continues, $360 will be the cheapest ram available. Hopefully with the new price structure, he goes back to releasing "no tag" animals.

I was there in March and we helped Thompson unload about 30 rams. Half went in the big pasture and there were some no tags in the bunch. The rest were all bigger rams and went in the Mountain Pasture. He told us that smaller rams were in short supply at that time so he had to buy what he could at a decent price.

His prices have gone up every year, since I started going there in 2000.

If you pay attention, every year, the size of the rams (based on tag color) gets smaller and smaller. A no tag last year will have a tag this year.

This is just the first time he's actually raised his prices on the non-tagged rams. He prices (tags) the rams based on how much he pays for them. I'm guessing the margins on the non-tagged rams got so low that it wasn't worth it for him to have them anymore without raising his base price.

You'll still be hard pressed to find a cheaper ram hunt.
