I got the bow tuning blues.

    Bear with me now,

I've always been a take it to the shop kind of guy but figured I would try and get and get myself set up this year as I made a few changes. How hard can it be right?

    Well heres what I got:
    2008 Bowtech General
Shooting about 62-65 pounds 28 inch draw.
    FMJ 340's 27" 125 gr heads

So the new changes were new strings and shorter arrows.

Step 1, I french tuned and got everything touching the string on the target.
Step 2, I took it out to 20 and got it sighted in.

Then I noticed a considerable kick out in the arrows in flight

Step 4, I paper tuned and it was tearing a good inch left and slightly low.

I adjusted the rest and got it shooting bullet holes.

Resighted and now my sight is almost maxed out to the left.

Step 5, french tuned again and everything is still tight.
But, My center shot is way off to the left.

I've checked everything I can with out a press. Tiller is good. Knocking point seems good to me but this is something I am still trying to figure out. So my last idea is cam lean?
    or timing?

Any insight on how to check these last two items? Or do I just need to give in and take it into a shop?

    Thanks,

I have not had a chance to broadhead tune yet either but with the sights maxed out left I am thinking this is where I will run into serious issues.

Sounds like a yoke tuning issue. Your cam lean does not sound right. Get back to center shot and see what is going on with the tear. Left tear, you'll add twists to left yoke, and vice versa.

The general is a binary cam. No yokes.

I didn't follow what you wrote for 1 and 2. It looks like you did it backwards.

With new strings. You need to make sure bow is in spec or close. That's ata, brace, and pounds. Make sure cams are in sync. And are timed. This is two different things.

Then set center shot and knoc level.

Now this is when you stand three feet from target and shoot string. And set sight. Once hitting string. No more sight adjustment for now. You will go back to sight adjustments later.

Now shoot a horzonal line at 20 yards with 3 or 4 arrows. Adjust knoc till straight line. You should not be very far from level. If so other problems

Now shoot your vertical line at 20 and get straight line

Now do walk back and do your fine center shot tuning.

While doing the 20 yard then walk back. We do not care at this point if your hitting the line. We only are looking for straight up and down.

Once you now have arrows in a straight vertical line. Out to how ever far you want. Your center shot is set. Now go and adjust your sight to hit the spot.

Make sure you don't have fletch contact or all of this will be a waist.

        Hope that makes since.

          Enewman,
Pretty sure I follow but how do you check sync and timing? Is there a visual inspection. I'm gonna check ata and brace. That much understand how to do.

So, I'm at 31 1/16 ata. Right on. Brace is 8 3/8, hair long.
            Specs are 31.188 and 8.25.
I did measure everything with the limbs cranked down.

Visual inspection tells me the cams are not timed.

The difference between the hole on the mods on each side is not the same distance on each side. Looks like I need a bow press to fix it.
Is this just a matter of adding or removing twists on one side of the cable?

Or really adding or removing twists in 2 cables and the string?

No problem. One thing to look at. You sync. Match the cams at full draw. The stops should hit the cables or limbs at same time.

But again you will need a press.

                      Be glad to help anytime

Get the cams perfectly in time first. Then set everything to perfect square and start tuning again. I don't know if this part is "by the book", but I tune in this order and have had pretty good luck. Set to square (account for the specific type of rest. Some like 1/8-1/4 nock high). I then paper tune to get a bullet hole. After that I finish it out by walk back tuning @ 10', 10 yards, 20y, 30y. After everything is complete, I have my wife stand behind me with the iPhone 6 (has slow mo cam and you can actually watch your arrow flight). Works for me!

                        Good luck!!
