Best air travel bow case for the money?

Got a trip planned to Kentucky in November. I have never flown with a bow I have a cheap plastic case just wanted to know what the requirements the airlines have. And the best case that doesn't break the bank.

The bonecollector is 100 buck if i recall and plenty sturdy. I broke the latches once and they sent me a new set free of charge.

We sell the SKBs like hot cakes around here. Awesome customer service as well.

I travel to hunt quite a bit. On most hunts I take an skb and a badlands rolling duffel. One bow in each and a set of hunting clothes in each. I'm covered if a bag doesn't make it. Skb does have fantastic customer service.

I have used the Pole Mountain case and carried my bow, arrows and basically all my clothes in the case. I now have the Badlands rolling duffel for my next trip.

what I hate about most of the other bow case for airline travel is that you start with so much weight to begin with, not a lot you can put in to reach 50#'s. The Pole Mountain is around 11#'s I think and the Badlands is lighter. plus on the Badlands, you can put a lot of clothes around the bow and accessories to protect it as much if not more than most bow cases. Besides, it the Badlands is black, most airport personnel do not think about it carrying something to hutn with, it looks like a lot of other luggage.

I have a Plano bone collector all weather series bow case. Latches lock and also has holes to padlock. Never flown with it but have shipped it fedex and now arrived fine and was on point. Was gonna put it on the plane but the airline wanted to much to do it. Shipping insured was cheaper.

last trip to SA we took two SKB I series double cases, with a bow, arrows, release, clothes etc. apiece in each so if only one case made it we both could hunt.

I have used a Plano hard plastic bow case, which locks, and I have used the SKB. I like them both for different reasons. I know several people use a hard golf club case. Few airline people will ask what is in it because it looks like golf clubs, and clubs usually fly as sporting goods, no size consideration.

I have learned it also depends on which airline you use as to how much it might cost to fly with it, and sometimes it just depends on who you are talking to at the check-in. I flew Southwest to Las Vegas once and the guy in Dallas was a complete jerk and insisted it was oversized and charged us extra. But on the return trip, the person in Vegas only charge the 2nd bag fee of $25. So lesson learned for me was to go to the airline webpage and look up archery equipment or sporting goods, and then print the page to show the agent. I've also flown Delta with no problems.
I recommend that if possible (time and security permitting), that you request to be present for the TSA check of the bag. Then you can put your own lock on it.
