    time for new string?

I shoot a '11 bowtech assassin and have not replaced the string since new. There are no cuts or fraying in the string but at the end of season last year my bow started shooting strange. For one, the bow is considerably louder with a "THWACK" at release. Secondly my grouping has been terrible, no better than about 6" at 20 yds. Lastly I use a hha single pin sight and have had to set on about 27 yds to hit where I want when shooting only 20. Are these all signs of possibly a worn out or stretched string? Or do I have something else going on? I'm not too bow savvy, I just like to kill things with it.

Yup, sounds like your bow is out of spec (likely caused by stretched string and cable)

Time for a new set of strings, and a tuneup to get it back to optimum performance.

IMO nothing about what you are describing is primarily related to the string. It sounds like you have other issues that involve the limbs. I suggest you take it to a reputable shop and have them check it over real well.

A string wouldn't hurt, but it will not fix the issues you are having.

With that age a new string set isn't a bad idea. You can measure your poundage, axle to axle and brace height. If these are off it's a sure sign that your string and/or cables have stretched. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
