Did a little knife work today.

I’ve been out of town for ten days and couldn’t wait to get back in the shop. I have a custom order a Damascus Drop Point Blade in the tempering oven it will be coming out in 30 minutes and going to put some ram horns on it when I get it cleaned up and etched. These still need several more coats of tru oil on the handles. I hope to make the sheaths for these today tomorrow if I have time. My grandson is spending the week end with me and we’re going to shoot our traditional bows and start getting ready for some 3D.

This first one is 1/8 1084 edge quenched edge is 61rc, Splated Maple Bolsters over blue dyed spalted maple.

This one is 1/8” 1095 Brine Quenched 61 rc, Ebony blosters over Spalted Maple. It’s my variation of a sharpfinger.

How are you going to finish your ram horns? I can't decide if I want to sand it all or just round the corners on the one I'm fixing to make.

I've done them both ways it's better for me to just round the corners since the ones I have are not very thick to start with and I like that natural look better.

Another point to think about if your have your scales pinned and glued on sanding with a machine is going to produce a lot of heat that can soften the epoxy. Rams scales have a tendency to curl if they get too hot. If you are going to sand them do most if it before attaching the scales.

Sweet thanks for the tips! I'm going to try and sand them with a dremel! I don't have the space for a belt sander. The only thing that's gonna kinda suck is the scales are different thicknesses, one is pretty thin and the other is pretty thick. I'm just waiting on my blank to come in so I can figure out how to fit it.
