    Hoyt Nitrum Turbo vs 34

Well, I got my all black nitrum 34 in with #2 cam at 29 inches and 72 lbs draw weight. First off, she is a beauty. I do like the draw cycle of the 34 much better. It doesn't have the big "hump" like the turbo. I knew the bow was going to be fast but I had no idea what the chrono would show.

Nitrum Turbo 71 lb at 29 inches

450 grain arrow---298 fps (carbon injexion with 100 grain head)

485 grain arrow---284 fps (injection fmj with 125 grain head)

    Nitrum 34 72 lb at 29 inches

    450 grain arrow---295 fps

    485 grain arrow---284 fps

Speeds were identical(essentially) and the 34 just feels better to me. I have my turbo at the shop for sale as it only had 20-30 arrows through it. I think I am going to order another nitrum 34 in the brown riser and camo limbs as a second bow. I always travel with 2 bows. I think I am going to add a wrap to that fmj arrow and that will get it to right at 500 grains. That with a 125 grain deep six solid broadhead will likely be my setup for grizzly and brown bear. It is interesting how quick the 34 inch ATA bows have been in the smaller cam size at 29 inches.

I was stuck in the same boat. But glad I got the turbo in 65 lbs maxed at 70 lbs bow was hot. I can see 70 lbs having a big drop. But like how the turbo keeps you honest in form. Not nearly as harsh as speed bows of the past. Good right up doc

Those were the similar results I was getting in 28.5" DL. Tried 3 different Turbo and all same results. Not the 20fps faster than the 34 as advertised. Was disappointed. But I contribute it to the 34 being a long side of cam #2 27-29 versus the Turbo #3 28-30. Got more rotation and energy out of the 34 cam generating advertised speed where as the Turbo was on front end of cam and not getting full rotation and therefore shooting way lower speed than advertised. I do know people with Turbo getting advertised speed but they are on back end of cams 29.5-30" Draw on #3 cams and 27.5-28" Draw on #2 cams

My Nitrum 34 is the best Hoyt I've owned! I'm a 28 inch draw length and have the 60 pounds max. I'am shooting a beman nightfall 400 spine with 50 grain brass up front and a 100 grain tip. It's shooting 270. I have shot 3 different broadheads through this thing and it spot on out to 60 yards.
This is my first 34 as I've always shot the shorter bows. Man was I missing out! The forgiveness, accuracy and tuneability of this bow is unmatched in my opinion. Plus the Harvest Brown riser and Max 1 limbs looks freakin awesome.

I've been trying to get people to go back to "longer" bows for a while if consistent accuracy and forgiveness is what they want. Especially for people
28"+ DL. So far I've talked 4 people into doing it and all 4 are way happier with the 34 over the Turbo or 30's they had previously. People need to realize 34" is still a short bow when just a few short years ago 36-37" were short bows and people had no problem shooting them in tight spots then. One benefit to a 30" would be mountain backpack or long hiking due to compact lighter weight. But for normal hunting in Texas I'm all about the longer version of the hunting bows. It shoots the same speed as the 30 and is gonna be more accurate and forgiving.

If a guy can't carry a 34 inch bow on a back pack hunt because of the weight difference then he probably doesn't have any business going on that hunt in the first place!! It ain't that much difference in weight.

Well I got my turbo in this week. I'am shooting a 28 inch draw with number two cam. Shooting 56 pounds with a 440 grain Gold Tip Kinectic KAO at 271. So far I like it pretty well. I only thing I don't care for is the stack up right at the end of the draw cycle. But the solid wall is awesome. Trade offs with everything. This is going to be my hunting set up and my nitrum 34 is now my 3d set up. My 34 loves the Gold Tip Series 22 Pro's. I'am shooting them with Four fletch AAE Pro Max vanes at 29 inch arrow with 80 grain target points and 30 grains screwed into the back. They are running 375 grains and at 56 pounds with 28 inch draw it's at 285.

I'm concerned Doc, I am looking hard at the turbo. I've heard most people are getting them to hit advertised speed. The one I shot at the shop was right on the head. Yours looks like its in the range of 7-9 fps slow. Was it all in spec?

All was in spec. I was impressed by the numbers but I didn't calculate all the way out based on my arrow weight, I never do. I know my carbon 34 is tuned well and shoots a 505 grain arrow at 280 fps. That's plenty for me.

My vector turbo is slinging my 489 grain arrows at, 284 so I'm pretty happy with that but I was looking pretty hard at the Nitrum Turbo
