    "The Spirit's" Maiden Voyage

About a month ago, I got a new Samick Spirit II. I have been wanting to start shooting it, and I have a dozen Beaman ICS 500s, but have not gotten a chance to get them tuned for my bow. I have some older arrows that I used in my compound bow, so I decided I would shoot them. I know they are not the right ones, but I just could not stand to see it sit in my study any longer.

My girlfriend Jackie is getting into archery, so when I got home from work I asked her if she wanted to go shoot. Of course she said yes, so we went out and played for about and hour. I mainly let her shoot because I am trying to get her muscles built up to start pulling more than 40 lbs. I have told her she needs to be up over 40 lbs before I felt she was ready to hunt. I know the minimum is gone, I just feel that 40 lbs is an adequate amount to take a white tail or hog quick and effectivly.

Well, here is the photo rendition of my own "Spirit's" Maiden Voyage....

ENJOY... (and if anyone sees anything wrong with my form, please point it out!!!)

And here is the pic of Jackie shooting, I know it has "training wheels", but don't hold that against her....

That is a very nice looking recurve. I'll bet is zips an arrow too. Don't worry about your GF shooting "wheels". As long as you can do this together and you both enjoy it, go for it. If you want to "kick it up a notch", you might consider a nice set of Wood arrows. I've shot them all and there's nothing like a nice cedar arrow on my bowstring.

Brandon, you need to relax your neck. You're going to strain it reaching for the nock like that. I did the same thing when I was starting out in trad. Other than that. LISTEN TO MARTY!!

Great looking bow. I was the same way while waiting for my arrows. Shooting aluminums and carbons that weren't matched to the bow...just so I could shoot.

What the heck did you edit those photos with? A pocketknife?

              Brandon,

Try to keep your bowhand from locking up and strangling the riser. This causes torque and will cause you to hit left. Relax as you did with your compound..
As LostHawg stated keep your head up - bring the string to you and try to not lean over top of the arrow. A couple fo the shots look like you were forcing your hips back and shoulders forward. This causes form and release problems. Try to bend only at the hips.. this should only be very slight, as your balance will be affected should you get on uneven terrain.
