Spitfires - Serrated edge vs. Smooth

Some state the Spitfire Edge (serrated) broadheads do not have as good of blood trails as the smooth blades of the regular Spitfires. I have taken two deer with the Edge and unfortunately odd circumstances have not let me be able to track them to get an idea of the bloodtrail they leave. What has been your experiences?

You are referring to the spitfire maxx I believe? Never used them, but i do hunt with the regular smooth blades and swear by them. Good blood trails and have shot many deer and pigs with them without issue. They even work well when shot through mesh pop-up windows. Great mechanicals, they're all I use!

Spitfires - Serrated edge vs. Smooth

I have pushed a few regular spitfires through a few animals in the past, some of the best blood I have ever had. Don't have any exp with the serrated so I can't comment.

I don't like the serrated. I hunted with them for a whole season, and took several deer. Weirdest thing happened when I used these heads. I spined two deer, so I didn't get a chance to see a good example of a blood trail, but I got to see the entrance. And I missed a doe twice with two of the serrated spitfires. First shot I wounded her in the leg, second shot hit a branch, third shot grabbed a regular old spitfire tipped arrow and double lunged her at 58yds. Needless to say, I'm a bit superstitious when it comes to these heads. I love the regular old black ones, and Dicks Sporting Goods has a 4-pack of the Spitfire Maxx, and they have the trophy tip(chisel tip) which I prefer. Best head on the Market if you ask me. They've been selling them for years, and they keep selling them, because they work. Crazy short blood trails that are easy to follow, big holes, and they fly through deer like a hot knife through butter, unless you hit alot of bone. I've killed alot of deer and done alot of experimenting with different heads. Spitfires are among the best. I've been around guys that use Rage, and seen the results. Penetration not as good, and there always those stories about blood being everywhere, and then the blood trail peters out, and no deer. Happened to my brother once, and he stopped using them when he shot a little spike and he didn't get a passthrough(and it was good shot). I am a firm believer that Rage, and other open on impact broadheads, that are fully deployed when they cut through the hide and hair dull to a degree, so that they're not as "out of the package" razor sharp once they get to the vitals where the sharpness really counts. Hair can be very good at dulling blades. Just my theory. Spitfires destroy the insides and leave big exit wounds, and don't waste there sharpness cutting through hair until they exit.
