Archery draw hunts

That makes two of us. I gave up a lease and am going strictly through public land and draw hunts, so fingers crossed for me! Honestly I would be happy to get drawn for one hunt in any category I have or plan to put in for. That in my mind would still beat hunting the same area and same deer over and over again each year.

Good luck guys. im in at the chap. so im not holding my breath. have 3 pref points this year for that category. which is my average for all of them so i hope im due for one drawing this year but i figure ill try for the spots that i want to hunt rather than the best luck to get drawn and get lucky eventually but everyone has their own strategy. some guys on here say they get drawn for something just about every year or every other. Depending how flexible work is for you i think you have a better shot most places going standby then getting drawn from what ive seen. I have been succesfull on showing up for standby hunts.

I only had one archery hunt that my schedule allowed me to put in for, so fingers crossed but realize it's a long shot.

You're right. They are still doing standby hunts.

I agree with many of the above post. Most of the hunts which are greatly reduced for archery this year are mid-week making it difficult. I put in for the Chap but with only 7 points I'm not holding my breath. If drawn that will burn most if not all my alloted hunting vacation as it's a M-F hunt. IMO-that will also decrease the number of people showing up for a standby slot as you'll have to earmark a week off on a chance you're drawn.

I have 9 preference points in the Archery Deer category. I'm hopeful, but I've been applying every year and haven't been drawn in that category yet. I've only ever been drawn once and it was on a doe/spike hunt at Kerville Schreiner Park and I didn't see an animal while on stand (saw plenty driving to and from). Still hopeful though, especially this year since I got off my lease. Good luck to everyone who applied.

In the last 15 yrs or so, I've been drawn on 6 archery hunts, and went on 3 as a stand-by!!!
Got drawn for 2 archery hunts just last year, so I have no points to cash in!!!
