    Tactical mail box.

    Disclaimer:
This project is in no way meant to cause harm or damage to persons or property. This is strictly a visual representation meant bring folk art aficionado's drooling with offers to be featured in backwoods publications and possible invitations for residency in the Smithsonian.

Now that we got that out of the way.

My mail box is maliciously and with full intent run over by a motor vehicle at the late hours of weekend nights once a year.

So............. I came up with a deterrent/ life lesson delivery system. It's still in development stages. I should have a full steel box by the end of the week.
    Here's the post.

    And the casualty.

You might want to check with your Post Master as that box may not be legal.

I was just visualizing what would happen if a kid ran into on his bike. A good concrete job on a 2 7/8th pipe post would likely do more damage then that anyway.

Welder buddy of mine would not build me a killer stout pipe mailbox because of liability issues.

Kinda sketchy for neighborhood kids or dogs. Although I get what you're trying to accomplish. We just moved out in the country. Just waiting for mine to get smashed. They say it happens a lot out here.

I wrecked my car as a kid (being stooooopid, drive WAY too fast). I rolled the car, and after rolling, hit a pipe mailbox. The owner of said mailbox had gotten fed up with hoodlums playing mailbox baseball, and built his own. It was 8" pipe, 1/4" wall for the box, welded to a 4" pipe post, also 1/4" wall, which was concreted (supposedly) 5-6 feet deep, in a 12" diameter hole. It did not budge.....at all. Would have been deadly if it was hit straight on at speed, but as it happened, it probably saved my life by stopping me from rolling again. That was 15 years ago, box is still there, without a dent, scratch, rust or anything. He did add some reflective tape after seeing how much damage it could cause if someone hit it accidentally.

If someone drives onto your property with the intent to cause damage, they deserve whatever misc. damage or oil pan punctures that happen to their vehicle. I have heard of this working by several other people and I don't think liability should be a concern since I think we STILL live in a land where we are free to bury what we want in our own yards...at least I hope we still do.

With freedom comes responsibility and concequences.

If it's intentional, yea they probably deserve it.
you'll probably get sued anyway and it may cause jail time if anyone gets hurt accidently hitting that thing.

I love this. Bookmarked. There is little more irritating than a constantly wrecked mailbox.

And there in lies the problem. Most mailboxes are set out in the easement not on private property.

I think some are missing the point or it is very possible that I am. But the way that I have seen people do this is they bury the spike part in the ground and leave only smooth pipe exposed so there is no danger to bikers, kids, or pets. But if a car decides to run the box over the pipe flips up out of the ground and the spikes smash into the bottom of the car and damage the oil pan or tires of whatever.
