Ear tip to Ear tip measurements?

It came up in discussion on another thread that maybe older deer might be more than 13" from ear tip to ear tip.

So, how about when you get a deer this season, measure ear tip to ear tip and see if maybe the older deer that appear to be really close to AR, might actually be bigger than 13" ear to ear.

Anybody think this would be a good project?

Also, should we measure all deer or just bucks?

Don't think they can add 3 inches to ears

What if a deer has really big ears, or really small ears...?

Once the hide is fleshed down then tanned and streched on to a form with clay packed in for the ear butts it can really make a difference.. I wasn't saying inches would be added to the actul ear.

Tip to tip spread can vary greatly from deer to deer. Even on a specific property. Ear sizes can vary greatly also. Measuring ears on a mount is normally a bad idea. Most taxidermists don't set ears correctly and this could really cause a lot of confusion.

Chance, you see lots of deer, what do you think the average would be. Tip to tip on a mature wt?

                    14''-17"?
