    Richland Creek WMA

Well our group finally got drawn for gun deer either sex! We have been applying for this hunt for 8 years at RC WMA. If anybody can recommend areas or compartments, south unit vs. north etc... it is appreciated. Also, is there any lodging close to the wma? Looking to see if there is a state park on chambers for a camper hookup and showers! Thanks in advance for any info!!!!

Yeah, I've been drawn for GDE at RC twice and saw one nice buck on the north units (24) and several smaller bucks on the north units (24) the second time. If I was drawn again, I would go to the south units.

We stayed at small horse ranch that had a few rooms not far from there the second time we went, but I wouldn't recommend them. That was a disastor. There is primitive camping not far from the hunt HQ and if I went alone (without BIL) I would just camp there.

    Good luck!

How can you find out if you've been drawn?

The deer in my avatar was taken there last Oct compartment 7. We have hunted there 4 times and always hunt 7 or 10. We stay at Fishermans Point Marina and campground. It's about 3 miles from the gate.

Not sure how many are in your group, but if there are just a couple of you, compartment 5 is a good one. I have hunted it several times and the only reason I didn't enter this year is because I found a lease not to far from there. Compartment 5 is something over 300 acres and it has everything you could want, bike trails, clearings, big shallow water pond inear the south border.i it's a good comp. To hunt if you are using popups. If you hunt it, check out the far left southern most boundary where the 2 fences lines come together. On the west side of the fence is open pasture of private property, but on the WMA side perhaps just 20 yards inside, there are HUGE rubs on a stand of cedar trees. Easily a 6-8 inch rub! I would love to see what it looks like this year. Had I put in for a hunt this year, that is where I would set up. Unless, he was shot on some of the neighboring private properties, there's a good buck in there worth hunting. I'm so happy to have a lease this year, I don't mind paying it forward wishing anyone a good hunt there!

If you have a camper, Fairfield state park is down the road a bit.
That's where we stayed several yrs. ago, great park.

I've only hunted the north unit, anyone know if its still closed with the wetlands construction still going on, I would guess so. I would highly recommend the motel at oak cove marina across the bridge if the rooms aren't already booked up, stayed there last year on a hunt at gus engling, very clean, owners were very nice and friendly.

Buddy and I going Oct 7-11... first time going here. Our old mainstay, Granger, is not a viable option anymore. Any tips are appreciated.

We (group of four) got picked 2 years ago for the second bow hunt and hunted one of the north pastures. Sorry, I don't recall the pasture number. Between the four of us, we killed a ten and a nine. They weren't huge deer but we were happy none the less. They both scored in the 120's. My advice is to find yourself a clump of large oak trees with trails running through them. Get up off the ground in a tree stand. We also had good luck rattling, the ten point (mine) was rattled up. There are some really good deer in the area and some nice bucks have been killed there. Hope this helps...I will try to post a couple pics
